DNFing here. It's an interesting book, but I already know a lot of this because it's the world I've been living in.

I didn't know about the controversy until after almost finishing the book. But... I've had a lot of Southern blowhards in my life and this tale gave me pause. When everyone in the story either wants to sleep with them or destroy them... you know something about their story is probably a lil off.

I mean, I'm still enjoying it but this book is SO. LONG.

Okay I'm waiting to find this as fascinating as I was promised. It's well-written. It's an interesting thought activity. But it's just not capturing my interest as a story.

People like to pick on poor Fanny, saying she's "boring" and "unrelatable." Y'all, Fanny gets tired after staying up late, doesn't like crowds, and this dude literally thought if he proposed to her, she would say yes so she wouldn't hurt his feelings. Also, she's broke as heck.
Fanny is a MILLENNIAL.

I've read this so many times and gosh, every time I get more and more irritated with Edmund. What a ninny.

"I do feel responsible for him... I did shoot him and bring him here, after all."

Brother Cadfael and Brother John are the coworkers who can't be trusted to sit next to each other in staff meeting.

Okay. I stuck with it and am finally starting to be rewarded. But the MC has SO MUCH trauma, and it is fully unleashed on you in the first third of the book. To the extent that I actually sped up the audio in order to make the narrator sound more cheerful.

Everyone says this is the most hilarious book. Thus far, I am finding it incredibly depressing. Please tell me I'm going to be pleasantly surprised soon 😬

Stop writing "This is like Firefly!" on the covers of books that are nothing like Firefly.
I am still enjoying this first chapter but THERE IS MAGIC. THIS IS NOT A SCI-FI WESTERN.

Oh man. Trudging through this one because I only have... Sigh... 6 more hours to go.
But it's like being on a blind date with a great person that you have nothing in common with 😭

I have 100 pages to go and so far we've had infidelity and marijuana as far as crimes go. It's kind of like a CW show with more swearing.

I never, ever post a midway update, but I just need SOMEONE to know how incredibly too long this book is. I loved Beartown. I was okay with Us Against You. This one may kill me. Almost 700 pages?? I'm 40% of the way through and I think only 1 day has passed.

I never post updates but right now I need physical proof that I AM making progress through this book.

I will never finish this book.

I have no idea why I thought reading two 500+ page books at the same time was a good idea.
