Ok hold on. November now has a third mark. Wait what? I felt like i has accidentally skipped some content earlier when she was suddenly having been at the academy for days, but now she’s had three marks and there was no mention of the first two. I know I’m picking at this but it’s very disorienting and distracting.

Did I mention there are parts of this book that are seriously sexist and bother me to the core?

I'm finally putting my finger something that has bothered me in the series -The amount of attention given to looks. I'm not exactly feminist, but jeez.. But REALLY gets me is the following quote.. I damn near put the book down because of it.

got this sucker for free in a bundle. so. im diving in XD

slow-going, lacking the humor from the previous two books, and ohmygod i am fighting to keep going. nothing has jumped out and hooked me yet, and if nothing does soon- i will put the book down and go to a new series. sigh.

the first 1/4 of the book was interesting, and i read avidly. then it got weird. then i got... disinterested. im having to force myself through sammy's pov. not sure why im not embracing this book, to be honest.

honestly I've been avoiding this book, due to the rumored love triangle. it sounds like a fascinating premise though. so. giving it a chance.

seriously? the prince just opens up about national security issues with his robot's mechanic? pffft.

i will say this- its really unbelievable the way the main royal scientist just confides in cinder so quickly and easily. i mean.. from the sniggering scientists behind an observation mirror to - lets keep a secret. its.. bleh.

id been putting off reading this, assuming it would be sub-par frivolity. but its not too bad. like most reviewers, i am pleasantly surprised by the cyborg/china spin of cinderella. intriguing to say the least.

i think i will have to come back to this. i just don't feel a connection to the book and I'm dragging through.

still not a huge fan of the book. but if we are mostly world building in this first one, i can understand it. and besides, it gets progressively better.

the writing does ease up and smooth out after a bit. thank goodness! still hoping for a good hook though.

this is an incredibly difficult book to get into. i can follow it, yes, but i just don't feel very engaged. the characters are not really fleshed out, and while the writing styles make sense for the characters, they are really abrasive. i really hope it gets better.

its dark but its fucking great. i am loving this more than i probably should. fantastically written. i could FEEL this kid’s pain as he saw his dad on the porch, too petrified to come help. jesus.

so far this is like a really dark little house on the prairie. with corelings - demons of some sort who come out at night, can melt stone, and terrorize the folk

i am actively trying to think like a kid. it helps a bit. i am hoping really really hard that the grammar and world-building grow in depth and breadth.
