Has significantly improved once she got rolling and is a pretty quick and enjoyable enough read. Still a lot of oddly manufactured moments to show how #feminist the 18th cent protag is and the author struggles a bit with show don't tell and not having characters saying exactly what they mean. Hoping things continue to improve

I worried earlier I was too "person who has only seen bossbaby watching a 2nd movie" when I said it seemed heavily influenced by Outlander, but it felt too right so googled it. The author has a selfpublished wordpress article about how Outlander influenced her writing heavily.

Now I have an abundance of unkind words for Outlander, but it was Gabaldon's 1st book, this is Lawhon's 6th....

I don't want to say too much for fears of jinxing myself, but this food is delicious!

Lots of thoughts; overwhelmingly positive, but definitely an acquired taste. I'm going to watch a performance of King Lear before giving a definitive review.

I'm so excited I only have 5 and a half hours left. This book is fine, but so long. I'm noticing Gabaldon has a tendency to write one book that really should be two different books.

This book is fine, its just so long, facing the fact that my next week is going to be a lot more of this book to finish it before my libby hold runs out 😭

I am relieved how much better this book is so far than the first one. The first book too wasn't that bad until around 1/3, but its maintained its quality pretty steadily so far, so I think its won me over. I was worried that it would take Gabaldon a couple more books to atleast get to this point.

It might be just because its at the start, and it might be just that this is technically YA and I'm out of practice with it, and since its for a younger audience things are spelled out more clearly. But this is a lot of Telling and Not Showing. Still not The Honey Witch bad yet....

I feel like there's just a hint of Ender's Game influence in this.

I think this ending might of landed better if I didn't have to take a month long break because I ran out of listening hours.

It has certainly picked up a lot, definitely enjoying it, but everything with her brother isn't quite landing for me
