Gilmore confuses Ammit with Amun as "the devourer of the dead." The description wasn't matching up when I searched for more information Amun. Coincidentally, I own a few records by the blackened trash metal band Ammit.

Got this one recently. Won me over immediately. Had to put the other books off to the side. Acquired my full attention. Damn fun read, so far. Excited to see where it goes.

I guess I am reading more frequently due to the season. As far as weird tales go this collection is a tad on the blander side of things. Ligotti is good at pulling me in at the beginning of his stories but fails to impress by the end. I don't know. The tales just aren't weird enough for me.

His works aren't "scary" in the traditional sense, but I do admire and enjoy the concepts of his stories immensely. Combined with the period and setting, it's a win!

I've had this book for over four years now. Some days I look at all those unread books I own and I think about giving them away. I am glad I didn't do that yet. At least for this one.

Man, I don't read anymore. It's either I am in a funk and need something fresh to read, or I just don't give a fuck about books and what's contained inside them anymore.

Not entirely sold on Paul's awakening, but I still think this is a damn fine book.

Not that interesting. Might come back to it later on; might not. Probably not.

Really fun but I am starting to get tired of the formula for these stories. The fights are beginning to feel less inspired too. Perhaps I should take a break and come back to this after I finish the current story in a week?

I was worried about reading this when I turned to the first couple pages and there was this quote from a study of Lacan. I was like, oh great - the signs point to high minded literary fantasy that cannot tell a tale. I was wrong, though. Delany's an impressive writer and understands why we read in the first place: for stories.

This is an easy pick to up and read due to the accessible way in which it was written: each animal gets its section of about four or five pages. It's not too indepth or anything like that; so if you are looking for a lite-piece read, this is it. I was hoping for something more academic at first, but I like this...

Well, I am done reading this one, for now. I finished the first story, and while it did have its moments (especially the first ten pages), overall I just wasn't into it a whole lot. The first story is the longest of the bunch, but also, unfortunately, supposedly the best one. I will try another here in the near future. Perhaps.
