Meh. Pretty bland. I’ve read a spate of really good books lately, the kind you can’t put down, so that may have slightly enhanced the banality of this book in my mind. Here’s hoping the last quarter makes up for the first 3/4 of ho-hum-ness. 🥂

Loving this book. The characters are wonderful, the writing terrific, and the growing relationship between Kathleen and Jack is fabulous. I haven’t loved a male character nor a budding relationship this much in quite some time.

So trite that I want to scream. So gauche, so overwrought. I cannot believe so many people love it. Clearly I’m in the minority but boy do I hate this book. As a writer Schwab is, to put it in terms my teenager would use, a ‘try-hard’.

Having the hardest time getting into this book. Hope picks up. I won it off #goodreadsgiveaway & it’s Kate Quinn (out in 2021)! I won’t put it down but it’s not so good thus far. Please pick up 🙏🏻.

Utterly fascinating! If you’re fan of mythology this is a must read. Mythos is a witty book filled w bon mots & clever asides, but mostly it is a rich tale of the cosmos, of Greek Mythology. It must be the most comprehensive book on the subject ever. I’m listening on Audible & it’s narrator is it’s writer, Stephen Fry. He’s perfection as a narrator. Very enjoyable.

Book 5. Love these characters & this story. I’ll say it again....If you liked Outlander read this well written book w characters you’ll come to love!! I’m only 35 pgs in & am loving the start. Excited for the ride!

Enjoying this one. Russian Revolution, Bolsheviks, Spies, Monarchists, Aristos & Sadists-w/ a hefty dose of no freedom & tons of secrecy. Well written.

It’s not bad. Not near as good as the reviews. I find it very slow and nothing that compelling. It’s not awful, but if I don’t feel a connection to the characters, if I’m not rooting for them, there’s something vital missing. Hope it picks up. Final thought: Not bad, not great.

Oh boy. The writing is so overwrought & so trite it’s distracting & I find I’m cringing regularly. The writer uses 1920’s socialite slang to death, so that the characters sound highly unnatural. I think (??) I remember this same issue from her first book-but that eventually the writing improved as it went on. Fingers crossed. 😳

Listening to this on Audible. The lead males voice drips w/ fiendish perversity. Brilliant!! It’s an easy listen. I was quickly drawn into the story. So far so good...

Oh boy. Such overwrought prose! Writer is working waaaay to hard to impress, the writing is so forced its distracting. Sure hope the story overshadows the writing. Great reviews so I’m hopeful.
