I am sorry I am halfway through. This book is excellent. This book should have been read first. I read Echoes of a Distant Summer first. LeRoi King Tremain is quite a character. He can go from being a cold blooded killer to being very kind and compassionate. I see why his family members in the second book distanced themselves from him.

I love this book. It spans from the early 1900s to 1980s and tells the story of two generations of the Tremaines and how their wealth was acquired. Guy Johnson, Maya Angelou's son, is an excellent writer. He is extremely descriptive and takes his time telling the story.
