okayyyyyy. Not even 20 pages in and I am already pretty into it. Mainly because there isn't even a whiff of romance yet. I'm intrigued by this plot!

Welp. This is a DNF for me. I just can't get into it. I can't buy all this drama and anger and heartache for a six month relationship no one seemed willing to try for.

There are other books to read.

The thing about Vuong's poems is... If I focus on the words, I don't understand the poem. But if I read with my ear, if I focus on the sounds and not the meanings, each and everyone rocks me to the core.

I think I'll need to buy this one.

Okay, both the Whitman and Wordsworth essays were good.

The Emerson essay was boring as hell, but I really liked the Poe one. Granted, I love Poe, so I'm definitely biased. Fingers crossed the Whitman essay.

Okay. Now that they're on screen with one another, the teasing tension between them is pretty good. Still think the whole scenario seems foolish though. We'll see how things go.

OK. Now that they are sharing screen time, I am a little more invested. However. What do you mean they were only together six months??? What do you mean it's been two years since they broke up?? What do you mean Cielo wasn't even willing to TRY long distance when London and Galway are only a 10hr car-ride apart???

I feel like that shouldn't be an issue for a lady from freaking TEXAS!

Also, "Boys Don't Cry" is a terrible song to play for someone on your first date, wtf???

"Friday, I'm in Love" is low hanging fruit, but come on. "Just Like Heaven" is right there!

Anyway... I disapprove of this misuse of The Cure.

Look. I want to give this book a shot. The premise is interesting, and I did enjoy the first one. Like. This Could be good. Except, well...

I just skimmed ahead and the main female character said she'd never heard "Boys Don't Cry" by The Cure, sooooooo we're enemies now.

Not gonna lie. So far, this just feels like homework.

Well, much like Morbidly Yours, I am struggling through these opening chapters. I don't love Cielo yet, and Aidan isn't as immediately lovable as Callum, but... I'm still gonna give it a shot.

I will say, I REALLY struggle with first person POV in romance. It so frequently sounds... Forced? Idk. It doesn't hit right for me and I'm not sure why.

Oh, dang. It was so difficult to put this book down last night. I am in love. And, I am such a sucker for a stoic man who contains hidden depths.

Also, I love Rosie. Despite being a 6'5" demi-god, I find her extremely relatable.

And, of course, any time spent with Duckers and Zeddie is time well spent.

Waaaaaaaaitttt. The shadows are plants. Adam bled inside the portal five years ago, when the plants started showing up. He's immortal (I'm pretty sure). And the Briar Thief keeps coming up...

Is... Is Adam the Briar Thief?

Ooooooh he's immortal isn't he? And he CAN see those shadows, I know it. What is this guy's deal???

Ohhhhhh Adam is fascinating? And... immortal? He also hasn't confirmed nor denied if he could see the "shadows" in the portal. I think he's a sneaky little guy and I can't wait to get to know him.

Also love Duckers calling Rosie out immediately about liking Adam's smell lolol.

Welp, I'm gonna mark this DNF'd and try it again as a physical book another time. It's well-written (as I've come to expect from Gailey) but I personally struggle with stories that use sex to make the reader uncomfortable (nothing wrong with that, it's just not my jam). Listening to it has proven to only heighten that particular struggle for me.

So, it's a pass for now.

I love how the past characters weave in and out of the story throughout the series. I love seeing Hart and Mercy ten years later. I love seeing Hart and Rosie lamenting the passage of time, specifically in reference to Duckers growing up (gods, I love Duckers). I love seeing Twyla and Frank settled into their retirement, as constant and sturdy in their love as ever.

I love this series and I'm dreading the end.

So, uhhhhh, not to yuck any yums but.... wtf is going on here?

My biggest takeaway from this book is that all these dudes had way too much free time.
