Still really enjoying these poems. Might start skimming the analyses though.

I am chipping away at this much more slowly than I'd like. I'm enjoying the poetry, but not so much the author's analyses. Not because they aren't good, they are. He makes a lot of great points and offers a lot of context. But... I don't know. Maybe I don't want to think this much about poetry. Maybe I want to feel it? More than think about it?

I think I'm just a sucker for this world. It's Fantasy Western Romance, which just seems buckwild but works SO WELL. It hasn't even been all that long and I'm excited to be back in Bushsong.

For once, I think I might like the female lead better than the male lead (for now). That's something I like about Yardley's writing, I find her characters very believable/authentic.

Oh... oh yes. I already love Hudson. Though, whoever approved this cover art should be smacked. He's supposed to have dark hair, salt and pepper at the temples, with bright blue eyes. He's also supposed to be wiry a la Timothy Oliphant in Justified. Not the hulking blond we were given.

Two pages into this guy's pov and he's longing for a shower beer???

I'm in love.

And just like that, I like Willa. I like this dog, and I'm excited to meet the male main character, because I'm betting I'll like him too.

Why is this series so easy to inhale. I keep telling myself I'll read just a page or two and then suddenly I'm almost halfway through the book?!

I know I am probably the ideal audience for this book because, well, dolphins. But, man, it's caught me off guard with the feels several times so far. I am nervous about how this is going to end...

Won't be done in time for the program, but I am thoroughly enjoying this, and learning lots! Will definitely be buying a copy.

I'm really enjoying this book so far, and it's making me want to get out and hike as much as I can before the season turns too cold. But, I do think I would benefit from a paper copy of this. Might be buying one.

This has made me cry several times now which, given the subject matter, probably shouldn't be surprising. And yet...

I'm loving this so far, mainly because it feels like listening to John Green's Instagram account without interruption 😂😂😂.

I'm putting off listening to the epilogue until I'm done with work. Can't be sobbing at my desk, now, can I?

Ohhhh the Natasha Trethewey poem! "Miscegenation". I've read it before and had forgotten who wrote it, but gods is it good. Such powerful images and references that has stuck with me for years. I'm so glad I could discover it again, here.

Welp. I didn't even make it through the foreword without crying.

I read this as a 10 year old for my school's Battle of the Books program. I don't remember much of it, but I do remember loving it. I remember thinking it was one of the best books I'd ever read. I remember feeling awed at what words could do.

It seems reading it now comes with some introspection I wasn't quite prepared for but, well. Here we go.
