this is somehow the longest book ever for me. I can only read in small parts bc it’s sometimes so frustrating. Like the whole book is to reflect on her time at the institute but we’re not even there yet!! She’s still just talking about being hospitalized! Ok girl what did you gain from it, how did you re-emerge into society give me something.

… some parts I’m like wow she’s cooking and everyone needs to get out of the kitchen. Other times it’s just a white woman whining about the past but that is grief and I’m like that too about my dad. she somehow is overly sensitive but also cold and aloof. We both know you can be more than one thing and humans are complex but idk

Been reading parts without the audiobook bc the kids are using my phone… lowkey appreciate it bc the author reads it and it feels too intimate. Like she’s whispering in my ear about sexuality and she’s 50 so I’m just like “oh okay… thanks” (YES I KNOW LET WOMEN EXPRESS THEMSELVES HOW EVER OLD THEY ARE BUT I JUST FEEL WEIRD)

I keep forgetting that this isn’t fiction, and when she names real life books and people I’m like surprised. I’ve never read a memoir before and it shows

this is just making me add more books to my TBR list… I’m not complaining but my wallet will. (I allow myself two book purchases before the year ends)

honestly what I’m getting is that we as a society reminisce of a time where we were community based like the 50’s/60’s but that sense of community is still with us. Also we have nostalgia over something that didn’t really exist, like every neighborhoods knowing each other well enough and PTA meetings. Social media is smoke and mirrors of us actually connecting with people… slay boots

She ate a pint of ice cream and rambled about another author who faked being Latin. She had an edible, thought she was kidnapped and is also suffering from vertigo and nausea. she’s now smoking with Vetch and being nicer to him.

Girl is rambling about Joan Didion and Slouching Towards Bethlehem. And about finding a red notebook in the park and scaring the owner of it.

teaaaa- the title and the vague description of the book is making sense now ayy. Okay vetch I see you, Eureka the bird I see you, and I’m guessing the narrator is named Hortencia?? bc her other friend’s names are flowers but they don’t say what her name is and there’s a chapter of Hortencias so maybe? I should reread that chapter to be sure

ok so the first three chapters are backstory to the author’s friends’ backstories. Thank god girl bc you were losing me from the start but I was still vibing. I like that all the friends’ names are flowers. I wonder what the girls call the narrator lol. Lily was kinda girlboss with the LSD and being mentally ill and being overly sensitive.

I’ve been very slowly starting this book and forgetting about it but I’m committed to finishing it!! It’s funny I like it but the first three chapters I’m sorry confused me so much… also the dust jacket gives a vague idea of what the story is about so maybe that’s on me, I should’ve checked online but it’s about a woman figuring stuff out and that’s all I need tbh.
