Kirjan teemat ovat saman henkisiä kuin Hiilamon loistavassa 19.4. kolumnissa.

Voima-lehden arvostelu sen sijaan ampui dramaattisesti ohi: "... sikäli kun Wagenknechtiä voi vasemmistolaiseksi nimittää." Voima-lehti kiistää SW:n vasemmistolaisuuden kun tämä ei edistä hyvätuloisten korkeakoulutettujen "kansainvälisten" ja "suvaitsevaisten etua" vaan syrjäytyneiden etua?

(En ole itse vasemmistolainen.)

Onko monimuotoisuus vaikkapa parlamenteissa kasvanut. Etninen monimuotoisuus kyllä mutta sosiaalinen monimuotoisuus on alentunut.

Keskiluokkaisen naisen tai homon tai muslimin pääsy parlamenttiin ei automaattisesti ole alemman luokan naiselle tai homolle tai muslimille mikään voitto kun samaan aikaan alempien luokkien ihmisten osuus parlamenteissa ja hallituksessa romahtaa.

Ihmisen edut ovat taloudellisia.

Konkreettisesti Wagenknecht kehuu mm. Tanskan Fredrikseniä. Sosialistit saivat vaalivoiton 2019 Fredriksenin johdolla, kun Fredriksen ajoi parempaa hyvinvointivaltiota ja vähemmän maahanmuuttoa.

Tätä Wagenknechtkin siis ajaa sen lisäksi että vastustaa Ukrainan tukemista ja Venäjän eristämistä.

Kirjassa on paljon samanlaista woke-kritiikkiä yms. punaviherkritiikkiä kuin vaikkapa Suomen Uutisissa tai Sarastuksessa.

Hyökkäys vasemmalta vasemmistoliberalismia vastaan. Tai sitä mitä Suomessa oikealta kutsutaan punaviher-aatteeksi.

Wagenknecht kuvaa monin tavoin miksi hänen mielestään vasemmistoliberalismi on hyvätuloisten näennäisen vihreiden hyvin koulutettujen ja toimeentulevien porukka, joka edistää todellisuudessa äärioikeiston ja talousliberalismin asiaa. Suvaitsemattomuudellaan, joka estää demokraattisen keskustelun mm.

On hämmästelty miten Trumpin kaltainen idiootti voidaan valita USA:n presidentiksi. Tosiasiassa 1700-luvun lopulla ja 1800-luvulla Ranskassa demokratia synnytti ensin Robespierren terrorin, sitten Napoleonin yksivallan ja myöhemmin Napoleon III:nnen yksinvallan. 1900-luvulla demokratia synnytti Saksassa Hitlerin hallinnon.

1800-luvulla kysyttiin onko yleinen äänioikeus ja liberalismi edes kompatiibeleita.

The French politician and writer and his lover writer Germaine de Staël are described as main innovators of liberalism during French revolution.

Besides, "Early liberals were not democrats. ... Their reticence on this owed much to their experience with the Terror ... universal suffrage was introduced in France in 1792 .... the Convention [elected] launched the Reign of Terror".

Daron Acemoglu regards this book important. That is why I dtarted reading

- interesting how the same guy Robert Price - friend of e.g Jefferson and the leader of the Dissenting Community in England - comes up here - like in the connection to Bayesian statistics in the role of the First Bayesian and friend of Bayes

Isbergistä saa kuvan että hän on älykäs, päämäärätietoinen ja tavallaan sivistynytkin mies. Hän on työnsä ohella lukenut ja tutkinut ihmisluontoa ja muita kulttuureja. Hän on päässyt pitkälle rikollisen ammatissaan. Self-made man.

Mutta ei ole fakki-idiootti vaan ymmärtää yhteiskuntaa ja asemaansa siinä laajemmalti.

Melkoista lapsuutta ja nuoruutta. Lahjakkuus väkivallassa syntyi kotona pelon kautta. Ja lopulta sen kautta että kieltäydyttiin pelosta ja kovetuttiin.

Started rereading. Is there anything more urgent than failure of democracy. Both Acemoglu and Robinson - and Fukuyama - have discussed development of institution but not only development but also degeneration.

As a pessimist I have always been interested in degeneration of states and institutions but today it is important to understand it. Deconstruction of democracy. Repatrimonialization. Nepoism. Corruption.

Trying to really understand at least the rather simple unilateral deterrence game fully and maybe the extended deterrence games more intuitively.

The glass of Flexible Response doctrine is half-full. Deterrence is not necessarily ensured. But at least is much fuller than the glass of Massive Retaliation - the Eisenhower "New Look" doctrine.

But the problem is: Trump as president may weaken Flexible Response by the structure beginning to resemble a partial return to Massive Retaliation logic, even if unintentionally.

The book shows successful deterrence (avoidance of conflicts) was less evident during cold war than we afterwards thought.

My main interest is: how probable successful deterrence is now when flexible response in principle still is the current doctrine but 1) Trump wants Europe to take care of the phase 1 alone and 2) Trump is more and more soft (unreliable) when it comes to the phases 2 and 3 of flexible response.

Is anything as relevant for Europe of today as successful deterrence of Russian attack on Nato countries? Bayesian game theory is the mathematical tool for analysing deterrence.

Started rereading this book for two reasons:

1. I have lately studied Bayesian decision making (including Bayesian Game theory) and
2. The issue of deterring Russia is a high-profile task for countries on the boarder.
