Maybe I should have guessed that a 'sweeping historical romance' would not be my preferred kind of book. It is more of a potboiler, and that is not really my thing. I just don't think women of the 1600s era, merchant/literary class, and Catholic religion were so quick to be intimate outside of marriage.
