I’m really not enjoying this book, nor do I think it’s well written. As others have pointed out, the writing is bogged down with metaphors that confuse rather than clarify. The main character is truly unlikable, which makes it a hard read. If she’s supposed to be exploring her freedom versus staying in a relationship for love, why am I not convinced she loves Samsa?

Really love getting back into Veil Haven! I have a theory about one of the scenes from the first book and Ash’s connection to the void. Don’t read more if you don’t want book 1 spoilers!

I feel like Ash is some sort of child of the void or maybe even IS the void (?), and when the void couldn’t talk to her because of the Forest Eye, Ava talked to Josie knowing Ash would be watching to get a message to her.

So far I’m really enjoying this book! I grew up in NC, and I’ve always loved the spooky Appalachian vibes. Not going to spoil anything, but one scene so far actually made me cry as well, which is rare for a book to do to me. I can also relate to the main character who has to deconstruct her worldview as someone who has experienced something similar.
