Really liking this volume! :)

The book begins November 1, 2021

I spent a couple of hours listening to (mainly Daniel Green’s) recaps of the three first books in the series. I consider it time well spent :)

“Such interesting neighbors” is by far my favorite so far :)

I love a good plot twist 😄

So I went from thinking that this is the worst time to read this book to thinking it might actually be the opposite. I think I like this book even more now than I would have when it was released a year ago. Even though the book’s virus; which people thought only had “mild, flu like symptoms” and turned out to be devastating for the entire human population, is still scary and triggers my corona anxiety a bit...

At first the social media posts from a girl in the time of the virus was a bit triggering, but after her initial panic calmed down her thoughts about the new normal are actually very relevant! She puts words on some of the thoughts I (and most people I know) have been having about the way things feel “normal” now and how some things from before feel so strange and foreign now.

I’m trying to stop reading the description of books before I read them (I read at least one book in between reading the description of a book and actually reading it (I keep a few downloaded at a time)) and therefore wasn’t prepared for reading about a post apocalyptic world after a virus. I really hope the book goes back to normal narrative soon, I enjoyed it so much more before it went into office satire...

Reading without re-reading the description (to avoid spoilers), just trusting the fact that it was on my time-travel-list :)

I liked the idea a lot, but spent half of the story getting more and more irritated that the main character didn’t understand who the second variety was... I thought he got it so many times just to realize that he was just having a friendly conversation (f.ex.).

The trinkets that all made sense as the story went on were just the kind of thing I really like in time travel fiction

Wait, didn’t they already establish that Talon kills deserters? Why is it suddenly a surprise?

I think this will be my 3rd or 4th time reading this book (: Read it for the first time in Dubrovnik the summer of 2013

The things about being bilingual just reminded me of a time I (~6 years old) answered a question about my mother tongue with: “my mother tongue is swedish and my father tongue is danish” :)
