I don't think I like Henry Gee.

Fantastic. I love ancient wisdom words and it makes a lot of sense to have stories alongside them. We can all name a few but it's nice to have a whole collection, and the artwork inside is gorgeous too.

4th time reading this, last time being 2013 for college and 2x in high school.

It's not as good as How Few Remains, in my opinion. It seems to have more POV characters and while it builds the world better, I'd rather it focus on the characters like the previous book did. We'll see how Turtledove handles it.

A book like this I wouldn't reread, but I'm going to read the whole 11-book series so... What's another thousand pages on ten thousand plus?

Not quite what I was hoping for but I'll probably finish it.

I really liked Pompeii, and I was delighted to find a similar Harris book in the charity shop for pennies.

This is going to be really sad at the end. I can feel it.

I have no idea what to expect with this book, thought it looked my kind of thing at the book swap.

I often find the second part of the trilogy is the weakest. The first is the hook, the third is the conclusion. The second has to introduce a stake that can be resolved in one go, but carry forward the grander ideal of book one to three. It's a hard task to do and harder to do well. I really hope Pullman nails it. I loved Northern Lights and would hate to see it go to waste.

I found this in a charity shop. It offers an explanation of each confirmed (to Nostradamus authorship) prophesy.

I don't believe in this stuff for a minute, but I'm a massive fan of lore-type stuff for universes and I'm treating this as part of what I call "human Silmarillion".

I know you won't believe me, but I promise this was in my next to read pile before the news broke.

There's a foreword by Russell T Davies in this one and I can't help but think how many Hitchhiker fans are probably praying he never gets the funding to adapt this in 2025. Which is amazing because fifteen years ago with Tennant era Who, it was the opposite.

This is a wonderful book and I can't believe it's taken me so many years to give it a chance.

Oooh, and there's the hook!

Still not sure what to make of this. Chapters are massive though. I'm only on chapter seven and I'm barely a third in. And the text isn't even that small.

ANOTHER diet book Harry? Were the first five not enough?

I'm definitely not the target for this book, but it's oddly compelling. Nothing truly interesting has happened yet but I'm curious as to where it's going.

This book I remember getting for Christmas twice, not certain when but around 2010. I don't remember anything about this one as by that age I'd fallen out of love with science. I'm not sure what happened to my second copy, as my dad got me the hardback secondhand and I assume I gave it away years ago.

These books seem to get more interesting over time so I'm hoping almost everything here is a banger of an ask.

So this one I remember getting Easter 2008. I was at the garden centre with my dad and nan. My hamster (who I got for Christmas with the other two books read) had recently died. My dad was wary about getting me this for wanting to try it out. To be fair, I had my hamster taxidermied by my other grandfather - but I don't think the book actually had anything to say on that. I don't remember this one like the other two.

This book seems to have more ratings and reviews than the previous Wasps and the following in the series. Must have been the most popular one of the lot.

Saw a review that mentions pop science, which is apt. Unfortunately pop science tends to have an expiry date which is likely why I'm ready to donate them despite having a sentimental attachment to these books. It's slightly longer but I doubt it'll take more time.

I first got this book (and Penguins) for Christmas in 2007. I flicked through it many times as a kid but sat down to read it in 2018. I meant to also read the others I got in the set over the years but never got round to it after this one.

I've always felt weird about donating books I've had since a kid, but it's been 18 years and I've no real desire to keep them, so I'm making an effort to finally read them first.

Last year I tried to read this book and put it down early, very unimpressed. I'm prepared to give it an honest try now that 2024 has ended and I feel the cultural climate has shifted.

Not sure what to make of this book yet. I'm enjoying it greatly, but it hasn't pulled me in the same way other science fiction books did despite this literally being the most on-point topic I could ask for re. sci-fi.

This is fantastic, yet another really interesting book about food that in turn naturally lends itself to a diet guide.

I'm on a big Persona kick at the minute so I figured I'd read through it.
