Reiterating I will never ever ever read a book this long again.

I will never read a book this long ever again in life. War and Peace? Never. Don Quixote? No way. Les Mis? Not gonna happen. What was i thinking?!

Anyway Roberta is in trouble and Clyde is taking chances to help her out of this jam.

So Roberta returns to her family home for Christmas, where a loving family is very happy to see her. Roberta isvery close t to her mother and "longs to tell her everything" about Clyde and the situation she currently finds herself in. But she can't. Shame and fear have overcome roberta. All because she's been sleeping with clyde. Now he's interested in sondra and given roberta the cold shoulder.

It just occurred to me that it would be more interesting if Roberta killed Sondra out of jealousy and possessiveness toward Clyde.

Clyde's dreams are about to come true. And thus begins the nightmare.

Clyde and Roberta just met. At 272 pages, I’ve read an entire book now. Just another 600 pages to go 🤦🏽‍♀️

Oh for crying out loud. I just discovered that there’s a version of this thing that isn’t written in what I call Yodaspeak. The sentence structure is far more complex than that. But if I can read it in plain English? Bring it on.

The thing about Paradise Lost is that it's so near indecipherable that it doesn't matter where I stopped reading it or what was going on in the narrative. Regardless I don't know what is going on 🤷🏾‍♀️

I think the story is about to take a turn...
60 pages to go and Evvie in the driver's seat.

This one's been sitting on my shelves for over 10 years. I felt overwhelmed by the heft of An American Tragedy but dammit I had to read something. I'm so glad I picked this one. Block's narrative and dialogue are perfect.

Wherein Clyde gets paraded around a church social because of his last name and finds himself in a lip lock with one of the local girls, something he would be better off avoiding. But what’s a lonely boy to do?

Wherein our boy Clyde eludes capture, escapes to another city, and goes to work for his rich uncle. Things are not what Clyde expected (such poor dressers and so dumb) but he sticks it out, giving it his best effort.

Book 2

At which point we conclude Book 1 with Clyde lucky to be alive and free. I knew some calamity was in the offing and I was right. The question now is, will this situation come back later to haunt Clyde?

Clyde has more experiences and adventures with coworkers and girls feeling superior to them but craving experiences.
