I don't know if I'll continue with the Divine Comedy.
There are parts of the Inferno so frightening that I had to remind myself that I'm reading Bible fan fiction, not scripture. And yet the later cantos failed to move me. Does this work strike me with the awe of Paradise Lost? No. Part of me wants to attribute this to reading a translation but I think Paradise Lost is astounding and Divine Comedy isn't.

Pretty scary fates for these folks. I get more from the text when I use the multimedia tools but the fright of it is right there at the top level.

Wow. So much here! I'm digging it cuz for once I think I understand it some, and it's scary AF. I keep reminding myself that this is Bible fan fiction, not scripture. Is anyone Hellbound? I would not want to go to this place. But I can surely think of several people I hope are there. I'm looking at you, Jeffrey Epstein.

I just discovered the coolest tool. In the front matter of this version, there's a link to a website with the text, Dore's artwork, references and the links...all the things! This is perfect for illiterates like me who need all the help I can get. Very cool. After 20 years the link is still active.

I think it's pretty easy to miss the brunt of this poem without knowledge of the history it speaks or the Italian language. It's certainly not Bible fan fiction, like Paradise Lost, and if you don't know what and who Dante speaks of, you can't know what he's getting at. Imo anyway.
