Holy crap, Dinniman builds the tension just like Pratchett.

I suspect that Dinniman wrote this one specifically to screw with Jeff Hays.

This is a series I'm going to have to listen again. I just miss so much the first time around.

The use of the Victorian trope of writing a story as if it is a found manuscript is overdone sometimes, but kind of appropriate for a Vampire story from that era.

I'm kind of mad that I'm into the story.

I thought from the beginning that Agnus sounded too mature. Then learned that she ages in later chapters to more like the age the narrator sounds like. So fine. But THEN we find out that she doesn't age normally? So she should still have a teenager's voice!

So many mispronounced words -- or maybe wrong words in the text? I though perhaps I misheard the first one, then second I though perhaps it was a British pronunciation. But by the time I got to this point and the brother used "immorality" when he meant "immortality" is neither. WTF? Was this in the text?

C3PO and R2D2 meet Dracula, the Wolfman, Cthulhu, and Frankenstein.

Not sure that I agree with many of the narrative choices. Agnes does NOT sound like a teenage girl.

It's tedious listening to binary read aloud. I hope that the rest of the chapters don't open that way.

The faction wars carries a slightly different flavor than the previous books. Probably the shifting POV is affecting it too.

Okay, at least it ended well.

Cindi likes this one, I'm not really enjoying it. The narrator is good. If it turns out there's not point to this book, or if Lelant doesn't get killed/exposed, I won't recommend this one at all.

Nearly every adult character, and a few of the child characters, are absolutely deplorable.

I think that I've met all the characters? Maybe? Still setting things up. The octopus's ability to recognize fingerprints obviously ties in to Eric's fingerprints on the oars.

Does this count as science fiction? We open with the octopus narrating. I think it's science fiction.
