read first chapter in graduate school, finally bought the actual book to move forward. The significance of the last chapter is the relationship between philosophy and concept, in which he first tried to define a concept (a becoming, as something always always dependent, relating to other concept and never without history!?).

Barthe would be the only one who could write about detergent and at the same time power structure, psychoanalysis and of course the pretentiousness of the bourgeoisie. I love the essay about Chaplin where his comment about class also connects to art and representation when he noted "To see someone who does not see is the best way to be intensely aware of what he does not see." This has got to be an iconic quote.

I am dying, like so happily. My absolute favorite so far is "Blind and Dumb Criticism". It is Barth's usual satire but doubled plus an anger (that I relate to so much) when he proclaimed: "(for a critic) any reservation about culture means a terrorist position". I love the clarity in which he writes. Whoever he was trying to shame but be in tears as they should lol. I highlighted multiple moment and noted "Thank you"

it is quite amazing to revisit Nabokov's work, all the precision (borderline perversion) of his language. Concise as this novel maybe, he never left a stone unturned, a moment nor a character undeveloped. The anticipated comes with lots of editing yet with ease, as if almost organic, unexpected. The subject remains ever faithful to the tragic, self-destructive obsession

The novels reads with a fast-paced rhythm as the antagonist face domestic struggle. Climax involves jammed door, broken phone, sick child and sick dog all happen simultaneously and yet it felt like a mental dissipation, a slowly losing grasp of reality. The everyday holds so much horror, fully exposed when one is already in pain. Ferrante tackled the female psychology with great sensitivity, and I feel her character.

It is like sinking further in a painful experience that is very much of a woman. At first a calm denial, then comes unhinged anger, and even violence. It feels like reading Plath's novel with the distinction of someone older, and a mother trying desperately to cling on to "normal" life for the sake of others. A therapeutic read regardless.

I love Chris' snappy tone. But this fragmented non linear structure of diary is wearing on my attention span.

"The Sixties" essay goes beyond art historical context to establish the cultural, political and even moral necessity (the freedom, privacy of art making) for Happening in the context of "culture industry" ( *He didn't use this term) in America while detailing three basic characteristics of Happening: Context, Chance and Impermanence. It is not revolutionary now, knowing everything one already knew about performance.

First chapter and it is the most therapeutic experience I have had after years of not reading any fiction. Murakami has a way to subtly weave his character into life, making their experience tantalizing, relatable and real. Murakami never disappoints.
