The novels reads with a fast-paced rhythm as the antagonist face domestic struggle. Climax involves jammed door, broken phone, sick child and sick dog all happen simultaneously and yet it felt like a mental dissipation, a slowly losing grasp of reality. The everyday holds so much horror, fully exposed when one is already in pain. Ferrante tackled the female psychology with great sensitivity, and I feel her character.

It is like sinking further in a painful experience that is very much of a woman. At first a calm denial, then comes unhinged anger, and even violence. It feels like reading Plath's novel with the distinction of someone older, and a mother trying desperately to cling on to "normal" life for the sake of others. A therapeutic read regardless.
