The distinction between the voice of the angst of the 15 old grooming victim and the nihilistic depression of her now-adult but emotionally stagnant self is subtle yet vast. Her rose-tinted glasses slowly dismantling and how the falability of memory is manipulated by abuse pairs brilliantly with the unflinching retrospective. The scene when she first goes to his house had me feeling actively light-headed.

Refreshing to be reading a compelling, well-written thriller with a well-constructed narrative voice coming off Ruth Ware's work lol although I'll give her audiobook narrator, Imogen Church, credit for her excellent performances, Christopher Eccleston is very clinical in his delivery which fits for emotionally despondent characters but a bit less engaging (obviously not something I hold against the book itself)

The fourth-wall breaking melding and merging of types of narration is an ingenious refraction of the relationship between author, reader and protagonist that reflects upon the performative reality of both wrestling and online sex work in a fascinatingly engaging way while never taking away from the quirky and breezy nature of the storytelling
