This is very average so far and the journalist’s perspective and personal life are quite boring. Evelyn’s parts are interesting enough. I’m worried this is way overhyped…

J'ai lu deux chapitres pour mon cours et je les ai adoré. Donc je voulais continuer le lire et maintenant, je suis presque fini! Un livre en français!! L'arte est très beau et l'histoire est amusante et captivante.

While the daily entries are only short snippets of labor history, I am still learning so much. I'm listening to the podcast episodes linked with certain excerpts and exploring the resources listed in the back for each entry. It is WILD how little labor history was covered in my schooling.

In the first week, I've learned about the Zapatista movement, Palmer raids, the IWW, the Spanish Civil War, and much more. Wow.

This book is so good that I lost track of time and read on my balcony for over 4 hours forgetting to make dinner and call my parents wishing them a happy anniversary...

Well, fuck. Here comes the devastation. And as the reader, we knew it was coming. There's themes of inescapable fate, of becoming the person everyone thinks you are, even if it's untrue or unjust. A sense of impending doom, of waiting for a person to finally break. I knew this was coming, but here we are, at the beginning of chapter 7, completely devastated. I love it.

Ok, now I am starting this in earnest. I decided to check out the audio book because a) I can get more accustomed to the more demanding prose and b) I want to listen to a Northern Irish accent for 14+ hours. Who can blame me? I reread chapter 1 and oh man, it is much more sinister. "Say Nothing" really helped set the context and culture.

I made a co-worker specially process this ILL loan for me so I could take it home with me tonight. I am already half way done and having the time of my life. A truly transcendent experience. What have I done to be so blessed by the rom-com deities?

I decided to read this before I truly delve into Milkman and I'm so happy I did. This is such an amazing, engaging book that will provide much needed cultural context.

All the men in this novel are truly awful and need to die. Helen is surrounded by wolves who want to use and abuse her. I know she escapes, but like, she needs to leave right now. Part of me thinks Anne needed an editor because I've been in anguish for 300 pages. 300 PAGES.

This is like watching a train wreck. Like, girl, you can't change this piece of trash! Run for the hills! Arthur is awful. I HATE immature, cruel, petty men. Like wow. I can't handle this. My poor heart. Helen and Millicent deserve better!

The Squire's Story - 3 stars
A rambling story at the beginning, but it has a fun murder and a mysterious main character. It was kind of meh for me. I enjoyed the tone of the narrator, especially at the end.

The Old Nurse's Story, 4 stars

Now THIS is a gothic tale. A little girl roaming the moors, a phantom organ, a locked wing in a mansion, and a family full of secrets. This was a joy to read. I'm giving it 4 stars because I wish the mystery was slowly unraveled instead of given to the reader in this large exposition dump. Loved it though!

Disappearances - 2.5 stars
An odd story about men disappearing and the aftermath their absences leave. The narrator praises the modern Detective forces of the time and how disappearances like the ones she recounts wouldn't happen anymore. She recounts men who were murdered or left their wives and were never to be seen again. And some men who truly disappeared. I wish there was more connecting the stories together.

Wow, St. John is really boring and I'd never thought I would miss Rochester, but his parts with Jane are some of the most interesting parts of the book. Can we get to the not boring part please!?

This book is a WILD ride. I'm at the post thwarted marriage conversation where Mr. Rochester reveals all and it's so much better than I imagined. And the part where Mr. Rochester is all why don't you just come live with me and love me. You don't have relations that would be offended which is fucking rude. And Jane is tempted (how human!), but then she thinks "I care for myself". I fucking cried. Jane, I love you!
