The Old Nurse's Story, 4 stars

Now THIS is a gothic tale. A little girl roaming the moors, a phantom organ, a locked wing in a mansion, and a family full of secrets. This was a joy to read. I'm giving it 4 stars because I wish the mystery was slowly unraveled instead of given to the reader in this large exposition dump. Loved it though!

The Squire's Story - 3 stars
A rambling story at the beginning, but it has a fun murder and a mysterious main character. It was kind of meh for me. I enjoyed the tone of the narrator, especially at the end.

Disappearances - 2.5 stars
An odd story about men disappearing and the aftermath their absences leave. The narrator praises the modern Detective forces of the time and how disappearances like the ones she recounts wouldn't happen anymore. She recounts men who were murdered or left their wives and were never to be seen again. And some men who truly disappeared. I wish there was more connecting the stories together.
