Noora is starting Wasted: A Memoir of Anorexia and Bulimia
this is an obscenely sad book. of course it is, given the subject matter, but it still surprises me with how upsettingly sad it really is, on so many levels.

it's like the author magically sensed my inner complaints about the last book, which i read after this was already published, and fixed everything...! quality enhancement, muah!

for the first time in my life, i'm going to put a book into the paper recycling bin when i'm done. it's not something i do lightly. i don't want to keep this, and i don't want to pass this on to anyone.

i must have overlooked James's editorial flaws in her previous stories, or this really is subpar. the glaringly obvious instances of rape culture made me take a step back. I'll finish, but I really expected more from the author - even though I can't say why.

Noora is starting Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Parts One and Two (Harry Potter, #8)
I'm sure this is visually stunning and a great experience as a performance, but as a book this is terrible: the plot stinks, the characters are awkwardly bad and OOC, and the level of writing overall is subpar. as HP canon goes, this is unforgivable. this is cringeworthy bad fanfic levels of awful.

I highly enjoy the different narrative styles in each chapter. we go from Renton's amazing but barely legible journal entries to high-brow literature and gorgeous sentences in a matter of pages.

TV and movie adaptions of books should always be made by huge fans of the original works. Hannibal achieved this and it shows.

Noora is starting Loving Someone with Borderline Personality Disorder: How to Keep Out-of-Control Emotions from Destroying Your Relationship
a kingdom and 0.5 princess for a guide written BY us FOR us and their closest ones. like this book says, we're "intensely caring, warm, smart, and funny" - we deserve better than misguided advice from people who've read diagnosis criteria. not saying this book is 100% wrong, but it's still written by someone else, for some other people. not us. ask me how you can love me and tell me how i can love you.

I truly didn't think it was possible to portray Harry as such an arse - and that's saying something. he may be a git several times in the septology but at least he was also our Harry, our beloved little friend. this play just... mangles everyone up and I hate that. don't do this to my childhood friends!

honestly, who OK'd this load of shite? why was JKR so cool with Jack Thorne making a mockery out of all her years' beloved labour? this book makes me want to cry; I'm NOT cool with this mangling. I'm sure the play LOOKS stunning but even that doesn't take away from the awful characterisation and horrendous dialogue.

is JKR okay? someone should check on her. agreeing to have her name attached to this crap is surely a desperate cry for help. I can't read more than three pages at a time because it's so bad. SO. BAD. and not even in a funny way.

I'm crying at Wanda's biggest wish having been to be a non-powered human. also at their rightfully calling her mentally ill. Wanda is one of my favourites and someone I admire a lot exactly for struggling so much, so this is powerful stuff.

exquisitely written in terms of word use and descriptive imagery, but so fucking creepy and way, way too detailed given the topic! Lolita did it better: it's disturbing without being nauseatingly repulsive. probably because of Humbert Humbert's character and the juxtaposition with that of Lo. Celeste is simply a sinister monster. I would love a book written exactly like this about almost any other subject! gaah.
