I've only read through the introduction, up to part 1. This encyclical decries the impact of modernism in the Church in the early 1900s, but is prophetic for what is happening in the Catholic Church today: clergy abandonment of sound doctrine, chaos, and moral confusion. I definitely want to continue reading.

I didn’t grow up in Appalachia, but there are lots of parallels to my own childhood and teenage years. It took a lot of courage for the author to lay bare his own tumultuous upbringing. It has helped me make sense of my own experiences growing up.
