I don't usually mind 1st person POV but there isn't a big enough difference between the two voices for me. Sometimes I forget whose narrating.

Also the italics for emphasis is over used. Especially when you also use italics for inner thoughts. I doubt that bold or underlying would work so how about just letting the reader determine the empathize words.

Skim or skip chapters 6 to 15. Scenes are too drawn out and add little.

There are already 2 editing errors. The shop belongs to Willard Treamont, so who is Elliot?!?!

Also, if Riley only found out about her aunt the previous year, how can she have seen a piece of art during "childhood exploration" of the attic in the Wilted Rose?

The author needs a baby name book! There are already too many characters whose names start with A or C. Doesn't matter if they are only there for one scene. There is a whole alphabet to choose from!

While this is a slow burn romance the change in Cameron is a little abrupt. He was nice sometimes and recognizing his attraction to Adalyn to doing everything and anything for her. Adalyn's mom is Cuban and the Latino Mom's I've read about all treat their children with love. It's possible Mom was absent or uncaring but the little that we were told in the beginning that is not the impression given.

Annie is too over the top with the whole "I don't need a man, I can do it myself" rightnow she's a step above TSTL.

And what's with all the remarks about Mormons? The author seems to go from disparaging to information and back.

So far the only mystery is who is going to get the funeral business now that Derrick is dead.

Still plugging along but debating about putting it away without finishing.

The secret ingredient was a good romance but sucked as a mystery as the murder happened 3/4th of the way through and was more a means for the two main characters to realize their feelings for each other.


Jamie Scott- This book has a good pace to it. The murderer wasn't obvious and there were enough clues to keep one guessing.

LJ Charles - skipped, already read

Adrienne Giordano- loved the characters. Jo and Gabe banter a lot, they respect each other and are both very alpha personalities, but they don't let that stop their relationship once they finally admit it.

Really enjoyed Sally Berneathy. It was fun and keep me turning the page to figure out how they were going to bet the killer

DNF Jenna Bennett's book. After so many references to the victim's size I decided that it didn't matter if I might be too sensitive about it, I didn't have to keep reading.

Right now my thoughts are that the author has seen Magic Mike many, many times. It's like she took the strippers from the movie and plopped them into her book. And then added the world's stupidest drug dealers. They don't pretend they don't know what Brook is talking about or try to be vague on the exchange.... nope if you asked for the drug you couldn't possibly be law enforcement.

Finally some back story

I feel like I am missing something......the backstory. So far we've been told that Parish Industry is very large and successful, run by the Matriarch of the family. She adopts/saves young women from horrible existences........ 28 this far. How this came about? who knows.

We do know something bad happened to Justice when she was young and it cost her sister her life. It eludes to human trafficking but so far no dets.

what's with the strange names? Tuesday, Snapper, the General who's married to the Colonel?!?!?

Also the editor needs some help. Twice things habe been one way and less than half a page later it's different. ie The dog is sound asleep then a paragraph later is whining to go out.

I am confused as to Mad and Nick 's relationship. the last book he called her his life partner and now they have split?!?! wish she would stress the time between the books a bit more.

Who wears their gowns and tuxes to a wedding rehearsal? !?!

The first two books Lexy goes on about being blessed with a metabolism that allowed her to eat anything without gaining weight and now it's gone? if you are going to do that then make it because she had a significant birthday or something not just because! and who doesn't know what Jack and Nans are up to. .....

The series has gotten better but could still use some work. Who get cell reception in the casinos!?!? At least these cops seem more real than the first 2 books. They used Lexy instead for information and didn't give Nans a password to get into their computer system. Still could use an editor both continuity and grammer.

Don't know if I am glutton for punishement or not since the first two were merely ok, but they were a fast read and I did get the first four in a set.....

While only slightly more interesting than the real world accounts of company's fraudulent dealings (Worldcom), it's obvious that the author has done her research. However, the Sex-in-the-city-esque style isn't my thing.
