I’ve just started this book, and at first I thought that the detractors were right, this is not a book to like.

But I’ve kept reading. And I’ve decided that the spare, dispassionate style in which it’s written is just right. It allows me to read about the pandemic without reliving my own depression and loneliness during that time.

I am so enjoying this book. I can’t wait for Ms. Chu to write more.

I just finished The Eight and gave it 4 stars.

I'm getting sucked into this book very quickly. All I want to do is curl up and read. Too bad I have real work to do.

I'd forgotten how easy it is for me to get sucked into one of Anne Rivers Siddons' books.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I'm not an Austen scholar, so I'm not bothered by any inconsistencies between this book and P&P. It's obviously written by a modern author, but she's taken pains to use the language structure of the time. She let's this style slip just a little toward the end of the book, but it's forgivable, at least by me. I know I'll re-read this book.

Reichs' descriptive phrases really are unique. "He had hair the color of unbrushed teeth...". I don't think I've ever heard that one before.
