I’ve just started this book, and at first I thought that the detractors were right, this is not a book to like.

But I’ve kept reading. And I’ve decided that the spare, dispassionate style in which it’s written is just right. It allows me to read about the pandemic without reliving my own depression and loneliness during that time.
