🫤 another mismatch of narrator (meh) with a cool story 🐉⚓

there's light at the end of this...book 2 has a different narrator so no need to get discouraged.

my heart's breaking...the land owner's son and his friend is whipping a puppy that they've hung. Now they've turned their attention to Rose, who runs with the pup.

There are narrators that provide a layer of atmosphere to an already excellent writer's moody (think Wuthering Heights) historical fiction. This new-to-me voice is frustrating, forcing me to slow down. I've restarted this dang book over 10x because my brain is shutting down with his sonorous tones and I've absolutely lost track. Ugh, the 13th time is finally sinking in. Liam, his father, and the widow...

This is what a romance series should be! As standalones with engaging main characters, and with cute scenes (bowling league/men's night) that include the angst and happiness of prior and future book characters.

I'm still not hooked by this story...too many predictable moments mire awkwardly obvious spice for spice sake coed/new adult stuff. Like it can't make its mind up to be a dark academia, mad scientist, mystery.

One of those books that should be read in physical or e-book format. For whatever reason, the male narrator chosen for the role of ridiculously sexy and eye-popping built 'River Oakley' sounds like Al Fuzzy or Gabby Hayes of my gramp's old timey Western movies. 🥸 Not giving swoony vibes against the Northern Irish voiced Amy James-Kelly who voices writer Gertie in this fake relationship romancer.

Inspired by the real organizations, the 3 timelines of women who caught in the unknowns of wanted and unwanted pregnancy. Grippingly taut.

I'm not ready for this book...it's only been a year for Tilly so her grief is fresh and full of new milestones (personally, 9 years and you can still have new milestones). Chapter 8 and I'm in tears.

Oh my good-thrillness! This is a new-to-me author and I'm hooked! From the very first chapter, I've been tense, hands tightly clenched, as the McKenna family buckle up against land thieves and nature. From the kids to Chloe the pregnant farm cat (a cat!), power outage, and rising waters...y'all this is so so good! Brock, Rinna, Sam...for the need of money, are just pawns by land barons and politicians.

...my mind's wandering (making chore lists, thinking about the storyline in Small Great Things) because when will the story move forward? I get that Indy is hurt by her 6-year fiancé's betrayal. When will she realize Alex made her smaller, made her less and that she's better without the small man? Ryan's got his own baggage...but um, celibacy? For a pro b-baller?!

New love unlocked: an author masterfully narrating their own work! Listening to Ann Patchett is such a genuine treat.

I stand by what I shared earlier...I WISH they had employed, availed the services of an indigenous narrator for this audiobook about the Shawnee brothers who still have a great legacy.

ACT ONE was a complete lifetime...there is the stilted, odd pacing as only a translated work provides.

this book is ONLY questions, a pirate's unending upending of her booty chest of what she knew, what she thought knew, what the online sleuths and fighters for justice opine. At this point in the book, I'm no longer tracking all the suspects...the author will do her reveal at her own leisurely pace.
