Too dense, meandering, and showy; Also, either my IQ level has dropped by reading too many pulp books or I'm not going to make it to the end of this. Putting aside for a bit.

I had forgotten how brilliant Z.Z. Packer is. Then this "Gideon" morsel waved like a pork chop before the dogs....

Don Letts's quotes are always illuminating, but his extensive quote on the significance of dub/reggae on punk on this page should be read by every punk music fan.

Gah! "Taking one's innocence" is an antiquated expression that just shouldn't be used, unless ironically or to denote the loss of childhood naivete (perhaps not even in that case nowadays). Also, finger fucking someone is, indeed, fucking. It counts also as the end of virginity, as does oral sex. So frustrating to see both concepts mistakenly used in a 2009 novel.

Oh Showalter...why do you keep hanging that William carrot in front of your readers? Either finally write a book about him or stop frustratingly zinging him into the middle of these books just to taunt us. Ditto Paris. (Note to self: it's just sad that you're looking forward to a novel about a demon named Paris. Please go outside already.)

I'm apparently a masochist in borrowing this 20th installment to the Anita Blake series. Hamilton--most exacerbating writer in this genre. Only on page 24 and already I've had the premise repeated to me at least half a dozen times. (Example: page 23-one paragraph explication on killing a character, followed by one-page conversation explicating same between characters!) When oh when will she get a decent story editor?
