I may be losing a bit of steam with my Mercy Thompson series re-read. The Alpha and Omega books truly are much better in my humble opinion.

I have a little sadness when it comes to Patricia Briggs books. I first read them 10 years ago, and I am certainly a different person now. There are plot lines even then I felt wary about (the constant use of SA as a plot device), but in my re-reads I notice more and more the internalized misogyny of the women and the general misogyny of the men. Sadly, I don't think I can actively recommend her books any more.

Instead of re-reading the Hidden Legacy series, I am going to re-read the Alpha & Omega series since the next book is coming out later this year. I really don't recommend this series to anyone but Mercy Thompson fans, but I'm happy to be back in this world.

Is it finally that time in the year where I inevitably re-read the Hidden Legacy series?

I think I’ve realized one of the things that has been bothering me. There is very little concrete physical description. I don’t know how any of the places and people look. I know when they startle or explain or how they emote but it is told to me instead of experienced. It’s a bit weird.

I don’t find the relationship development to be particularly earned so far but will keep reading

I’m a unimpressed with this so far. It feels a little like we’re going nowhere and we keep being told things instead of actively shown them.

I'm going to be honest, this plot is unhinged and idk if I'm going to last through this one.

Giving Loretta Chase another chance since this is a more recent releases and the audiobook was available from my library!

I hate Dain. I hate how Jess thinks she is to blame. I HATE this dynamic it is so bad. I’m probably going to dnf this.

I really hate our dude here… how am I supposed to be rooting for this awful person?

Mandanna's work is just comfort food!

Not sure how I’m feeling about this one right now

I was trying to finish this before a trip this weekend, but it is going to have to wait until next week. I continue to be amazed how repetitive the plot for this book is. It's just slight variations of the same plot point over and over again. I watched Andor season 2 earlier this year, and I keep thinking how can I like someone like Luthen or Kleya and but not Helena? Hmm.

At the end of Part 1, I was close to putting the book down for good. I knew this book was meant to be brutal as many war stories are, but I really could not mentally take more of what Part 1 had to offer. Part 2 eased me into the horrors, but now I’m at a loss. More and more the main emotion I feel is exhausted by this book.

Not sure what to think thus far apart from this being wordy. I see some breadcrumbs on where this story could go and idk if I am happy about it. But hey I've read the blurb for the original fanfiction so it's my own fault tbh since I already knew I wouldn't like that potential plot element. I just hoped it would disappear lol.

My morbid curiosity got the better of me.

Historical romance has become a bit a comfort read category for me after I read so many last year. There are very few I really like (let alone love), but certain writers like Mary Balogh just click for me from a comfort standpoint.

Lisa Kleypas is hit or miss for me, but she's still an author whose romance novels I can read without DNF-ing at the first chapter (lol). We'll see how the Hathaways series reads for me!
