Sanaa added a status update
I have a little sadness when it comes to Patricia Briggs books. I first read them 10 years ago, and I am certainly a different person now. There are plot lines even then I felt wary about (the constant use of SA as a plot device), but in my re-reads I notice more and more the internalized misogyny of the women and the general misogyny of the men. Sadly, I don't think I can actively recommend her books any more.

Sanaa I will likely continue to read her works, but I don't think she handles native american culture, women's agency, sexual assault, and relationship dynamics particularly well. It's a shame because I love the world of her stories. One day I hope to find an Urban Fantasy series that doesn't fall back on these tropes over and over again. I will also say that I think Patricia Briggs is much better than some of the other Urban Fantasy I have read (apart from Kate Daniels and the Others series which I will also admit have their own issues). It is unfortunate that a genre I really adore has very few series I even consider are worth reading, and even the ones I consider worth reading (Mercy and Alpha & Omega) I can't really wholeheartedly recommend!

Sanaa But anyway. There are problematic dynamics in PB's books. She does try to address them and doesn't do a great job in my opinion. However, the series has a soft spot in my heart. I can't recommend it any more, but I can't say I won't be excited when the next book comes out. It's difficult sometimes to let yourself love something that you know has its own myriad of issues.
