The writing style is grating on me a bit, but listening to it on audio is a marked improvement, and I do think the conflict between the characters is interesting. I’m just nosy because Amelie Hoeferle is going to be in the movie adaptation of this, lol.

I can’t believe I was tricked into thinking that the “Waiting for Death” title of Book Three pertained to Casaubon.. Someone free my sister Dorothea!

Love that Will is described as the human equivalent of sunshine.. He’s so cute..

Already mourning the fact that Lydgate and Rosamond will not be the equivalent of the “me and the bad b*tch I pulled by being autistic” meme..

Screaming at Fred more or less asking Mary if she wants him to kill himself because she thinks he’s a bum.

I’ve been listening to this on and off enough that it’s worth using towards the Reading Challenge that I am very behind on, lol, but I will note that I truly believe it’s the audiobook narrator who elevates what would otherwise be a slow and boring reading experience. She does a great job at capturing the nostalgia, the whimsy, the sadness, the longing. Excited to see this adapted in the show.

You read a classic and suddenly remember first person is indeed a worthwhile point-of-view only devalued and bastardized by the vapidity of the 21st century contemporary novel.

The Jeffrey-Batty propaganda has finally begun..

The plot has barely even begun and I’m already at 15%. This is a very bad omen.

Do I have the strength to go on? Can I survive these last two hours without crying my eyes out over the internal suffering of a lonely eleven-year-old?

Okay, officially cried. This one is so painful.
