His frequent use of the "Altaic language family" and some other minor squabbles aside, I'm hoping that this will end up being the political history of China for which I've so long been searching.

Incredibly fascinating. Not quite Snellgrove level, but still well written and very engaging.

Incredibly fascinating, beautifully illustrated. It's a shame every minority group in China hasn't such an endearing volume devoted to their history and culture.

This has to be the most cliche-filled, simple folk epic or fairy tale I've ever encountered, and that's saying a lot. It's honestly challenging to read because every chapter feels like an exact repeat of the previous one. Beautiful girls like flowers by the river with their flashing gold earrings swooning over the lead male. I dare not call him a hero because all he does is exist to be coveted by all around him.

One of the most entertaining collections of folklore I've ever opened. Such great, moving stories.
