Conditioning myself this year that I at least read—leisurely—20-30 mins a day. Helps with my writing as I finish my manuscript to get out of UP.

Thoughts on Zialcita's: Sacral spaces in Metro Manila are gradually becoming muddled, all in the name of conforming to global standards of what a metropolis should be.

The constituents of municipalities are connected with one another because of religious traditions, festivities, commodities, and local dishes. Do we need to sacrifice these things in exchange for the idea of progressiveness?

Re-reading again because I need to convince myself to write (lol). But going back to this again, now opening the blue cover version, still amazes me how well-written the reviews are. I quote from my favorite piece, at the section where I'm stopping for now:

"Selflessness, at its most heartbreaking, identifies itself better with tragedy."

I've always conditioned myself that I was going to read Akutagawa as a start point when I dive into the classics for Jap lit, but I guess change of plans.

I can't seem to finish Ruth Ozeki's novel. Nao's parts are too dragging, and I'm not even at the half of it. Might need to take a break from it and start on short stories from the same category: east asian lit

Late to the party with the hype for this book. But also, I guess it would be that impactful if it would be my first time experience in reading with such themes. But I'm used to it already, so in a way, I approach this book, as if it would help me reflect on what I know already. Still, a good book full of lessons that people would overlook because of how they'd think "I know that already."

Really feels like a thesis manuscript but it's interesting.

I had a slump these past few weeks. But I'd like to share this beautiful word that was shared by the protagonist, Nao.

Kotodama is a japanese term for words that has spirits within them. koto means "speech" while dama means "soul".

The problem of writing about the past really starts in the present: No matter how fast you write, you're always stuck in the then and you can never catch up to what's happening now.
