haven’t been using the review rectangle as my little diary in a WHILE. is everyone doing ok. pretty sure i have the flu. pretty sure i made some bad decisions this summer that made the people i love and feel safe around even more precious to me. i should meditate again. this book is good but that’s not what i’ve chosen to focus on today

fuck i love fantasy

i feel soooo bad for this but i just can’t get through this book. it’s so repetitive and i don’t know how many times i can read about "a return to love" before giving up. beyond that, so many things are just stated as fact when i don’t think they should be that it starts to feel like the whole book is kind of. groundless.

reading the hours always feels like those 3d bookmarks i had when i was a kid of underwater life that if you stared at too long you got dizzy. with a big dolphin or clownfish in front. "all suffused with the steady white glare of the day, which seems to emanate not so much from the sky down to the earth as from the air itself, as if invisible particles in the ether emitted a steady, slightly foggy phosphorescence"

very disheartening how casually mean stephen king is to baby ben… leave him alone, what have fat people ever done to you. this book is like every moral panic of the 80s embarrassingly incorporated into a story about the ineptitude of adults to recognize what’s real and what’s fake. ironic

ok i think it’s actually the better feminist option for stephen king to not write women because his fundamental flaw i think is that he cannot create characters that aren’t at their core himself and he cannot imagine what being a woman feels like. which is why hes bad! but when he writes what he knows it is actually a very charming and captivating read. “Mike’s breath caught, as if on a thorn.” i love that

she keeps CREATING moments. love it. this is kinda long though but i am loving it im just tired.

i’m really enjoying the reading experience i’m having with this where i pick it up and get entirely engrossed in the mood and the moment created and am utterly enchanted & delighted and then put it down and go empty the dishwasher or something. and pick it back up 2 hours later.

god i love memoirs i love seeing people put their lives in perspective their experiences into words i love seeing people draw connection between events and acknowledging the lifelong influence of childhood… and i’m a huge gossip

i love the ocean i love swimming but this book is also reminding me of that feeling you get when you’re swimming and you’re far from the shore and for a second you think about how much water there is between you and the ground beneath and you get that dizzy panic of “oh i need to be standing up on something solid Right Now”

couldn’t possibly be written in a smaller font which means it makes me tired because i keep forgetting my glasses! i love my boring life
