Another gamble I took among the slim pickings of the used bookstore with its even skinnier shelf of English-language books. This one is paying off. Good atmosphere, prose and characters.

I read the first essay about fairy tales 3x because it was beautiful.
Now reading the second essay.

Much enjoying the stories of the writer character, Tom Haley, who become the object of the protagonist's affection.

Another 3 euro used bookstore find. I've enjoyed various McEwan books, so why not. But I do dislike this unimaginative cover. Perhaps I'll brown-paper it.

Another used bookstore find that wouldn't have been on my list. At first I thought maybe I wasn't in the mood (ever) for a novel about English spinsters fussing over clergymen, but soon I was chuckling so let's see.

Super warm today so I stayed inside, drew closed the shades & made much progress on this book. I picked it up yesterday in a used bookshop that was otherwise slim pickings.
I'm encouraged that Hatche stays in the picture as a character and isn't immediately thrown by the wayside. I also like the nature descriptions, the abundant thistle, clay, trees & rocks.
I think this is the first Turkish writer I've read!
