Just 3 pages in last night & was already cracking up at the mother in the story who, after giving birth, takes up a campaign against all vaginal births. The house is cluttered with "t-shirts and posters with the same image and slogan: a vagina in a circle with a line through it and 'MISCS' which stood for Mothers in Support of Caesarian Sections."

this takes a couple sad turns that improve the story, but otherwise this is skippable

Another gamble I took among the slim pickings of the used bookstore with its even skinnier shelf of English-language books. This one is paying off. Good atmosphere, prose and characters.

I read the first essay about fairy tales 3x because it was beautiful.
Now reading the second essay.

Much enjoying the stories of the writer character, Tom Haley, who become the object of the protagonist's affection.

Another 3 euro used bookstore find. I've enjoyed various McEwan books, so why not. But I do dislike this unimaginative cover. Perhaps I'll brown-paper it.
