Good explanations based on scriptural grounding. There are perspectives unknown to me because I'm not male. It's sound. I am understanding the importance of male role models and father figures in a boy's life.

Read the chapter on Singapore'a education system. It felt strange to see statistics that compared it to Australian and American education landscapes. I think broad data doesn't capture human narratives and lives very well. I felt quite removed from the supposed narrative, though I was encouraged to take more interest in global perspectives on education, and be thankful of the lot of Singaporean teachers in comparison

There are 5 pillars the book mentions, 3 of which were perspectives I didn't know about, so it was like learning many new things. Some sentiments echoed what I felt from my experiences as an educator.

It reads like a textbook. I think this is a good book to read for work. It gives me knowledge and discussion points to speak with my students about. :) it also makes me think on a broader and more global scale, about issues beyond my immediate concerns. I can see why reading does broaden our horizons.

This book has been really enlightening. The research is good and the writing pops out of the page. It's wonderfully descriptive, with very really repetition. I've read a chapter on how to adjust to orchid children that made me thankful for my relatively sheltered primary and secondary school experiences. I was a very sensitive child.

Some thoughts that were particularly helpful were how a parent needs to separate their own pain from their children's. While disciplining and the children's upset feelings may be painful for the parent to witness, the pain of discipline and maturity are actually good for the children. But if the child is misbehaving due to trauma or other needs, then the parents need to look deeper.

Hey friends, I'm currently reading snippets of this book and I would really recommend it to writers intent on improving their craft! It's so reflexive. Each chapter has basics (like the theory), suggested exercises to try with examples of pieces by others and readings (example pieces) with questions. I find the last bit particularly helpful. Analysing things about craft can help one improve much and quickly.

Moving book. The characters feel real. I'm experiencing many emotions as I read this book. I'm thinking about honour in those times. I can understand the motivations of the characters and it's very hard to judge any of the characters for what they do, because they have understandable motivations for why they do what they do. The characters surprise me.
