Well the writing is not bueno

Trying to be understanding but...humans are the worst a lot of the time.

Man, she really said "I gotta blast through every Atalanta story in 300 pages" - no time to care about any major developments, gotta keep moving

The setup up of who all these people are was meant to provide touchstones for the reader to sympathize with and go along with them. But there is no way I was going to remember who they all were and I sure don't even as we have now been hit by the other ship. It doesn't make it any less traumatic and sad.

So we just said mash all the myths together and let's say they took place on the voyage of the Argo. I mean...it's expedient.

I don't even know what to say about...whatever is happening. What a turn into left field.

Hwhat

Again I find Lila ridiculous. Every time she runs into a potential problem, she has to stop herself from drawing your knife. Go ahead dumbass. What do you think is going to happen when you attack a guard at the royal palace? What is that going to do for you? The character is such a try-hard cool-girl.

Finally it sort of gets interesting. It's odd, though, how the stakes are purportedly high, the horror is supposedly horroring, but it still all feels terribly innocuous and banal.

Delilah is such a pain in the ass character. She's supposed to be someone you root for but she's just fucking exhausting.

So she's a calculating coward, too. And she's trying to give the reader excuses for why she DIDN'T act like a better person. The only enjoyable part of this experience now is the expats and how they interact with each other. Protect them at all costs.

This narrator is actually a pretty shitty person and I don't like being in her head. She's self-centered, smug, and incurious with the moral backbone of a snail.
