This really just is a condensed retelling of Dracula, but the characters are all Turkish. Since it’s so similar, this makes it boring, and I’m not sure if I’ll finish it. On the other hand, it’s only 140 pages, so maybe I’ll push through. The concept of bootlegged novel adaptations is very interesting, so it’s cool that this exists and has been translated into English.

Enough.

I think Johnson is reaching a bit with some of her claims, but also a lot of the analysis seems a bit surface level… Still having a good time but I can’t say I’m impressed.

Thinking about how our local DSA made a book club for this a few years back and how they probably regretted it so much when they realized that after the introduction it’s niche literary analysis 😭

He’s pissing me off because 1) why do you name a book “The Caucasus: An Introduction” and then only talk about the South Caucasus. 2) I usually don’t have beef with journalists, but also you can tell this book is written by a journalist and not a historian because *gestures at everything*. 3) This book is way too popular press (light shade) for a prelim list but this is my grave and now I must lie in it.
