Also both monsters and just people. Cool how the hunters were the scariest thing in a book of monsters. The tricky illusion shell game at the end was pretty cool. I quite liked too how Dymitr kind of grew on Baba Yaga, that even she recognised he’s just a genuinely good person. It was definitely left open to more and I really hope there is a 3rd book because I love these characters.

Very cool. I really love all three characters and think it’s cool how much depth they get given it’s such a short story. Dymitr is the best. I like that while he’s a badass night he’s also just a genuinely good person. A quick reread before starting the 2nd one. Which was a good call because I had actually forgotten a lot. I feel like rhibutt with crescent city being like why would they need a 2nd one, everything was wrapped up so well and then rereading it and being like no it wasn’t of course there’d need to be more haha. The jewel smithing magic was very cool, how she used the properties of the gems to influence her magic. And Rane's illusions magic was very cool too. The little golem Grimney was the cutest little thing ever, was honestly one of my favourite parts of the book. I loved how much they both loved him. Such a fun read with excellent characters and beautiful magic and worldbuilidng.

I absolutely loved this! It was so good! It had a real classic fairytale, folk tale kind of vibe which I really enjoyed. The authors note said that one of her favourite stories growing up was Howls Moving Castle and I definitely see that. Both Saphira and Rane were wonderful. I loved them both so much, and their relationship was so lovely. Felt very natural which was nice. The magic in this story was really cool too

For the entire book! She’s just kept boo hooing about her mum being captured. Im sorry but there comes a point where I think her mum would say fuck it and let her go in order to actually make a move and think that point was somewhere between humming and harring about whether you’ll need to kill your best friend and actually murdering three innocents exercusioner style.
