Also, in a segment about prejudice against minorities, a thin paragraph was dedicated to ethnic nurses and the rest of the passage was about male nurses. There is a wealth of info and statistics in this book, but from a very specific perspective

The style in which this book is written is very good and comforting to read, but the plot is so predictable and boring. The show puts Claire in a better light; sometimes having her boring or willfully ignorant introspection works against her.

Compelling yet disturbing

Wow I was just as annoyed as I thought I would be 😑

I’m going to dnf and stop complaining as soon as the twist is revealed. I know Joey had a reason for kidnapping Abby (that involves her husband) but they keep getting interrupted before she can explain, and she never introspects in her letters/chapters 🙄

uuuuuuuuaaaaauuugghhhhh. im so annoyed that this wild west lesbian couple story with a repressed pastor's daughter protagonist seeing god on account of this pissed off outlaw woman's fingers and strap is so grating to me. it could be the audiobook narrator's trembling voice or how whiny she sounds with accents. or how Stupid the pastor's daughter is. I just want a lesbian book to love, is that so stinkin hard!

Part of my beef with the MC is the voice of the audiobook reader. She says everything so tremblingly 😬

Caregivers are automatically female and can only thrive in emotionally equipping her child with healthy shame with support of a partner? I wish this part was written more gender neutrally. Also there was a line in the beginning about “Muslim terrorists”…. Could have just said terrorists… there are terrorists of many nationalities and religions… (side eye)

Really exciting that the therapy is working and our girl is having some pivotal breakthroughs
