the pacing in this is so odd....nothing feels bloated but I'm at page 368 out of 448 and very little has happened outside of asphodel's timeline ..... in fact much of this present timeline has been catching lilianne up on the situation and thus reminding the reader what the previous books were about. but the writing is sufficiently enjoyable that it doesn't come off as slow or boring? i don't know .....

you never see first person plural in middle grade. this is so awesome

idk. im interested in closing out the series of course but I feel like middlegame was so perfect and none of these sequels have quite hit its level.....none of them are BAD but none of them really elevated it either. after I finish this I might pretend it's a standalone forever

I've decided that the reason I didn't like white is for witching is because my taste was bad when I was 18 and I've wanted to read this long enough to give Helen oyeyemi another chance. I am not far in but enjoying it so far!!!!!

interesting and powerful to learn all these details but the fact that there's no narrative and it's all like a fragmented patchwork quilt makes it slow going

i just learned that this author has another weird speculative coming of age middle grade novel which JUST came out and promises to be even weirder than this trilogy AND has interior illustrations.....to say that I am excited is an understatement. i wish everyone knew about this trilogy it's kinda the greatest thing ever

definitely going to have to take this in small chunks alongside other books because it's a Lot. but most of the other books i have checked out to read rn are pretty heavy too so i'm going to have to be strategic about it. very interesting though!!!

was not expecting toxic yuri from a famously mormon author but there is genuinely no other way to describe what is going on between spensa and brade rn

i know the other day I said I liked learning about the delvers but tbh knowing their history ruins their mystery and unknowability and fear and turns them into any other monster which kinda sucks

truly kinda sloggish.....i think because i haven't read this one before + enjoyed it i have no feeling that i need to enjoy it now...and i'm not really. but i saw some reviews saying it picks up and i DO want to know what happens so we'll see....
