the whole middle section of pages just fell out...... i guess this is what happens when your edition is 30+ years old. trying to think of the best way to deal with this. very good so far though i have to say!

i am mostly enjoying this but i’m having trouble with the way dari got mad at her…like i would understand if he broke it off because it got to the papers, or he broke it off because she’d gone to the reform school (though he already knew that) but i don’t feel like the article clipping actually was in favor of her having done it so him getting mad that she lied and killed her brother is not so believable…

just flipped to the introduction and learned that the author was a man. came as a surprise but also made some parts make more sense?

for a story about rejecting men how is it possible that there have only been two lesbians so far and they were completely one-off sidetracks?????

"...for the cleft and the soul are one in a woman." okay.....this is really starting to feel a bit bioessentialist and rooted in the idea that there are inherent differences between men and women. also the sole focus on genetalia is reminding me of (deep cut here) in six angry girls when the knitting club's activism was only yarn-bombing places with knitted vaginas.

if i never read the words "rodkin" or "cleft" again it will be too soon and i'm only halfway done with this book

loved the first section. not sure about the switch to 3rd person. I assume this is to show a sort of disassociation and a loss of the self but I loved Madeline's voice in part 1!!!!

this section is making me get the lapvona comparisons.....but it feels out of nowhere?? I want to go back to frenza?

the best thing about this being entirely plotless is that it is VERY easy to just pick up and put down at any time

back to a nice respectable 3 books at once....enjoying this one a lot and i think it kind of was pairing well with yesteryear in terms of unlikeable main characters

just picked this one up from the library and have high hopes for it! enjoying so far!

this is beautifully written but getting a little repetitive to me

havent loved many of these stories so far...hoping the second half is more my style! I still appreciate this for what it's doing in regards to bringing the writing of women from a less-often-translated country into english though :)
