irish lit book number 3

the end of the nola chapter made me realize if enriquez had gone to nola a few years later, or anne rice had died a few years earlier, there UNDOUBTEDLY would have been a section on metarie/lakelawn cemetery and I have no idea how that would make me feel

I haven't been reading this as much because it's too big to comfortably fit in my bag every day BUT it is going to have my sole attention this weekend now that I've finished all the other books I was reading!!!!

though this is completely set in an urban environment, I'm feeling a bit of the folk horror with the way the neighbors are somewhat one organism, like one threat all together, and trelkovsky is an outsider who they are against

i swear I am going to finish either this or alamut or ideally both by the end of this weekend!!!

here I am reading three books at once...

second book for irish lit -- I loved learning that TWO of the most famous vampire books are both by Irish authors.

"I wandered down to the canal to look at the floating dead fish and remember life could be worse. Life could be a lot worse." this resonates to a previously unheard of degree..I GET HER!!!

i was really into this but I think that all the the sudden a lot of things happened without the necessary buildup and it felt like a switch was flicked and part of the book became missing. we’ll see how it goes from here!

slowww going and I'm not sure how to feel so far. it's very much got that vibe of being set at a fantasy school despite being historical fiction. also I am borrowing this from my favorite professor!!!!

enjoying a lot though it is more stylized than I expected, especially compared to i who have never known men -- but this is the fun stylized!!!

started this sunday -- reading ahead for my Irish lit class!!! i was feeling uncertain when I started this but I have gotten sucked in

my dad bought this today when I went to the bookstore for part 3 of my carmilla editions ordeal but I'm reading it before him

I'm not NOT enjoying this but its episodic nature makes me feel like we're skimming the surface of adina's life rather than diving deep into any of it and leaves me wanting depth. idk. I'll see how the rest goes!!!!!

i really like the philosophy she has in the afterword about what constitutes a "short story" versus a "tale". i strive to write tales.
