Russian interpretation and implementation of Marxism ideals was full of contradictions, purges, and even mass executions.

Stalin recognized the vulnerability within post revolution Russia towards right leaning and cult of personality ideologies. And in the end he participated when he injected himself into the agriculture industry.

A few chapters in and I found this quote from Lenin quite profound.

Lenin's best-known remark in the Philosophical Notebooks was on the relation of Hegel to Capital:
“It is impossible completely to understand Marx's Capital and especially its first chapter, without having thoroughly studied and understood the whole of Hegel's Logic. Consequently, half a century later none of the Marxists understood Marx!!"

There’s a certain inconsistency with the characters and plot armors to tie things together.

It is certainly very descriptive of the males in the story. It reads like YA but it certainly has an adult demo in mind.

Risqué is the word I can think of.

Reminds me about the devil wears Prada but with a nut job as a boss.

The chapter about reactionaries and progressives made me think about George Orwell‘s 1984. The sentiment at the time was very much aligned between these two writers. Is communism an inevitable police state that forces isolation, or is it what was propagated during war time?

I find this fascinating. I would like to see the what kind of books were being published by the opposition at the time. P138

Very interesting how the Chinese intervention in the war changed the tactics of managing POW and how they introduced indoctrination.

The timing of the book being published and the anti communist sentiment makes it feel like post war propaganda.

The difference between Bitcoin and Ethereum is complex and interesting. The blockchain is faster and can contain code.

The difference between electronic signature and digital signature is that electronic signatures can be a name written in a box or a copy of the inked signature. Whereas the digital signature is generated using a private key and cannot be replicated without the private key. P148

Money needs to fulfill three functions: a medium of exchange, a store value, a unit of account.

I like the intrinsic value argument. When banks shifted from cattle to silver people could argue that silver did not have intrinsic value, “I can’t feed my family with it”. P45

The importance of regulations such as when people losing money on scams and asking that something must be done to stop scams. P46

I feel like this book is just about applying optimism regardless of the situation.

After reading spillover during the beginning of pandemic I have to say that David knows his way around transmissible diseases. And pretty much called this whole thing a decade before it happened.

I’m trying to supplement with counter arguments while I digest this book. There’s a lot of one sided debate and accusations but I’m here for it.

The argument in chapter 18 about families being torn apart in favor of state is foreboding of the rise in individualism and the ever increasing cries for attention happening in recent times. Especially with the advent of social media and its ability to sway masses while speaking to the individual.

What an amazing trip through time! This book really hones in on how we gradually transformed into conquerors across all domains. Sapiens are scary monsters.

Our transition from hunter gatherer to farmer will always have 100% of my attention. So far this book is ticking my fancy.

I’m convinced of the Sapien driven extinction of the mega fauna starting 40 thousand years ago. I don’t know enough other than we’re insatiable in our resilience. I truly think we were addicted to slaying all big animals for prosperity and status. Burning down forests for agriculture and convenience also seems like a plausible scenario.

Either the subject matter has too much depth or I’m not as engaged as I think I am with this audiobook.

I’m so mad at myself for not having picked up this book until now. The subject matter is covered so well. From our development of social constructs to the creation of LLC. The author’s perspective is so full curiosity, it is inevitably contagious.

But nothing better than the breakdown of humans. Not just sapiens but all humans. I’m enamored with this book. I’m so glad reading is back on my daily routine.

I am enthralled with David and Giovanni’s relationship and how difficult it is for both to have someone not accepting his feelings towards anyone.

I’ve just brushed up on the prologue of this book and several articles around Turkish political affairs. Very interesting premise. Specially considering the recent right win in Italy.

If I could describe the reading vibes I get from this book, it would be "cozy". Unfortunately I'm not invested in the story.

The author argued that the then governor Ricardo Rosello burned bridges by trying to audit the PROMESA debt but also argued that he was conspirator in the debt scandal and was friendly to the people he wanted to have audited. I would not be surprised this was too but the contradiction is odd.

I need some comfort after everything that's happening and two consecutive NF books that depressing. J.K. makes books that are so easy to read. I sliced through 26 pages in a few minutes.

As a NF piece, this book has a basic flaw. It refers to politicians as "current this". That's about to change and will complicate parsing through this in a short amount of time.

Another thing is the nationalist bias...from a man that has lived all his life outside the island.

The author is very emotive and I am all for it but I see the argument of NAFTA timing along with NA corporations using PR as a test ground for global expansion as a reach.
