I'm tempted to stop reading here and just say the rest of the book is Boris somehow showing up again and it becoming about this shady, antique furniture con man and his scary, strung out, Ukrainian boyfriend terrorizing the underbelly of the New York city art world. And nothing else happens. that's the whole story. The end.

This is like The Secret History all over again. This book is giving me some kind of existential anxiety and it's not even trying to do that.

I read this for the first time almost two years ago, and it feels long past time to go through it again

Right before I started reading this, I read that Finn Wolfhard got cast to play young Boris in the movie adaptation, so all I'm picturing is Finn Wolfhard doing an accent

I'm honestly only half paying attention because Laini Taylor's writing style is so good, it's distracting me. I keep stopping to highlight every like fifth line.

I remember someone saying that Shusterman tends to have really good premises with mediocre implementation, and that's really all I keep thinking about as I go through this.

Elio is so incredibly back and forth, it's making it hard for me to establish any kind of feeling towards him getting with Oliver. I'm guessing Elio is supposed to sincerely like Oliver for more than just sex, but that's so difficult to believe when Elio keeps being like "I'm indifferent to him now." Like??? Is that relatable for people? Does that usually happen???

The story is so smothered by the main character's unyielding thought processes, I keep having to stop every two or three pages just to come up for air. I almost wish this hadn't been in first person so this story can take a second away from this guy to breathe.

Alright, so while I usually don't like heavy magic/fantasy settings, I'm realizing that the subgenre of "mortal stuck in a fairy world" doesn't count apparently and I'm super into this

I'm only twenty pages in, and every sentence already reminds me why Donna Tartt is my favorite author

It's like, I start getting interested in this story, and then the narration suddenly says something stupid or starts going on and ON AND ON about how overly attractive and desirable Gavin is, or it starts talking about some woman's boobs, or it talks about how much better Liv is because at least she's not dressed like a slut like this other girl is. Just bleh. Gag me.

I apparently need to stay away from fantasy for a while. I'm only 8 hours into the audiobook with like 13 hours left to go, and I'm already zoning out. The world is interesting enough and it's a good idea, I just dont........care..........

It's really funny how Dan is hyper-aware of how his situation with Abra would look from the outside and is all about not looking like a creep preying on some 13-year-old girl, but sometimes he's just like "You're right. Now would be a good time to comfortingly hold your hand in this public place. There's no way this could be misconstrued."
