What a fun futuristic retelling of Cinderella! Love that it takes place in Beijing. The story had me interested the whole time even when I got busy with life. The romance is also innocent and cute but the book doesn’t revolve around it. The story is much bigger.

I loved how this started - so intriguing. Life got me busy though so it was hard to keep up. The ending somehow still shocked me. Nice.

The title actually makes sense with this story so far. Haha dog plays dead for 6 years but is actually found alive.

Read this during vacation in Oregon - short and sweet. Well not really sweet but this was a great read! A bit of comedy, mystery and spookiness. Exactly what I was looking for this month. I’m really liking this author.

Okay it started losing me around chapter 5 a little bit. We were following the letters of a man stuck in Dracula’s castle but now we’ve moved on to these curious characters like an asylum doctor, the man’s girlfriend and her friend. Maybe it’ll all tie together soon. I’m still curious.

This book peaked my interest as some people recommended it for a good spooky season classic gothic tale. I thought I’d give it a try audiobook style and so far, it does not disappoint. The older English accent was interesting but not terrible and I sort of like it.

Am I getting burnt out from reading? My last two reads were 3 stars but I guess they were newer genres for me. It’s somewhat satisfying to find that I do have opinions on certain writing styles and not everything is 5 stars to me. For one, it seems not all romantacies are my type and I’m totally okay with that. What to move onto next…

Finally got through the audiobook. I wished I liked it more! The reviews seemed so exciting. I wanted to see what a darker love story looked like but the words were so flowery and volumptuious I could space out for a minute and still be waiting for the author to be finished explaining the emotional rise of the tide. It grabbed me occasionally but only that. I’m not that invested and won’t be reading the 2nd book

Finished the book…finally! It did get emotional a bit at the end of course. This was real people and a real tragic situation. I felt like the author made this story longer than it needed to be. I know she was trying to bring life to them as we don’t know too much about the real people but it seemed like too much liberty. I always enjoys the authors note at the end and the resources she shares.

Ahhh! Last few hours before the explosion! I’m very curious how this all ties together. I enjoy the character development of everyone but also feel it’s kind of random at times. Ugh I just want to get to the end. Sometimes I do feel it could be shorter but we are talking about switching between 4-5 perspectives so it’s a bit necessary. Almost done!

Okay, I’m enjoying larger parts of the story telling now. And I realized why Imogene bothers me. She’s whiny and flip floppy but she’s also been abused so makes sense. I did enjoy her having a heroic moment as well. I really like Theodore, he’s cool. But every so often I feel like the story drags itself on with over abundance of words. Regardless, I am intrigued.

I’ll admit, it had me in the beginning but it’s starting to be…very melodramatic. A single description seem to take 3-5 sentences. I love a full picture and colorful language but it’s not as captivating as I would hope. I’m gonna stick with it because I’m wondering how it’ll evolve. I like the main character but she bothers me for some reason. I also like the love interest but we’ll see.

Wanted to try another historical fiction from Ariel L. This book reads like a multiple perspective high stakes mystery with an unfortunate (historically accurate) ending. I like the way it’s written out. Perspectives change every chapter and it’s cleverly written. It’s just weird to know the ending already but I think the character build is the point. Wondering how it’ll hit me in the end.

Finishing this book in the middle of the night and I am crying. The fact that this is 75% historically accurate is both comforting and mind blowing. As uncomfortable as some of the story is, the writing is so well done and I appreciate the authors honesty and transparency in the end. Brought it full circle. God bless you Martha Ballard.

Audio booking this one. I thought the accents would be difficult to decipher but it’s not bad. I haven’t quite felt immensely “pulled” to the story but it is a bit fun and interesting. It’s sad though that one of the sisters died already, not sure if that’s in the original P&P…the visual telling isn’t bad but it could be more? We’ll see.

Ephraim and Martha’s relationship is a charming one. Healthy and sweet! This early time of the judicial system is painful…I mean it still is. The aspects of the use of her diary is interesting too. She has her entries short and precise. Here I thought I was suppose to write all my thoughts. I like the fox and the falcon. Tempest and Percy.

This book is a non stop read so far. And there are fun new words to learn every other page. The way Martha is written is clever, witty, and simple. She sets the scene well with minor details but moves on quickly to the important matters. This mystery is already frustratingly fascinating. It better be a good ending.

Took me awhile to get through this audiobook partly due to life events. I liked this unique story with the town. Although I love all the characters we continue to see, I wish that there was more variety to the story telling. Marcus has saved Andy like 1000 times. Also, I wish the one legged dude (forgot name) lived and we would continue to see him in future books. Starting to get repetitive but still a good story.

Ooooo the mystery about a religious almost cult like town dealing with a murder. Always gonna be an entertaining story when you go that direction. I hope Laurie and Andy get back together. I like Andy’s new sidekick investigator who’s missing a leg, he’s pretty funny. It’s weird that Marcus is always being utilized. Is Andy ever not going to be in danger?

Fascinating retelling of the Beauty and The Beast. I actually appreciate the choice in leaning into the bizarreness of Belle’s situation and how this mysterious tale actually happened. The love story between her mom and dad is sweet but imperfect like most. Also, can be quite chilling and dark when you pay attention. So far this is really neat. I wonder if it’ll end as predicted…what happened to
her mom?

This is a great book on the perspective of God. The way the author goes into detail and kind of switches your mind around about things. Will probably make even an atheist think a little differently. Almost done!

Literally only read the prologue but already hooked. Some fascinating questions and amazing direct quotes. Very prevalent to society today as we think about who God and the impact of that in our lives depending on how we frame God in our hearts. So good 🙌🏻

Don’t even have time to update as I just whip through these books now! I really enjoyed this book, more than the last one. Especially as I got halfway through, it was hard to stop reading. My only issue is that oftentimes the real culprit show up late in the story and so of course it’s a shock. You didn’t know about them! I was sad about Adam and Laurie leaving! Gonna read the next one…

Finished this book on the plane. By the time I got to halfway through the book, I couldn’t put it down. I loved this short story between a rag tag group of people just trying to do their best to stop a bad prince and his family’s curse. I appreciated Marta’s resolve to save her sister and her real moments along the way. I didn’t expect a love story either but that was very sweet in the end. Great read!

Almost halfway done with the book already! Marra is an interesting main character. Shes painted as a bit slow but mostly because of her traumatic upbringing. Oftentimes, character growth is slow and so it’s no surprise that by 30 years old, she’s finally taken it upon herself to be a brave (though broken) princess among a cruel kingdom of a darker reality. Her resolve is in her love for her sisters & I luv that

“Spasmodically” - my new favorite word. Basically Spas but formal. Anyway, I’m so sad about Ambert. What a terrible fate to be ravaged by squirrels. This arena is like the Garden of Eden but evil. It’s a brilliantly sadistic set up. Haymitch seems to have broken the arena but somethings not right…
