So, it's cute, but there's something keeping me from really connecting with the characters.

Also, I don't like that she trashed Rupi Kaur for no reason?

Three chapters in.
Strong fairytale vibes.
Little Mermaid, sure, but also some Beauty and the Beast feels with the merchant father, the beloved youngest daughter. Also, the whole 'adopted orphan' thing is reminding me of something, or several somethings, but I haven't connected it yet.

What's up with her feet?

I am not feeling deep affection for any of the characters yet.
The crushing anxiety and suicidal ideation is delicately handled.
The love interest is supposedly quite likeable, but he is always smoking and it's a turnoff for me.

I like the ethics references, but I disagree with some of the conclusions he comes to.

I love this book so much. I love this author. I love the way he describes things, people, emotions.

The other "failed vampires" are cute. Simon is still on thin ice.

Eeesh. The commands and the unequal power dynamic thing is not so fun.

Still cute, but I liked the first one better. The energy when both are bumbling cutie pies is different than this one-sided thing. Simon is too uptight. So far, Charlie is likeable and Simon just ...exists.

This book is already so heavy. Like, good, but painful. So much death and hopelessness. I think it will strain my mental health unless I take it in small bits.

17 pages in and we have a cute boy, a history of suicidal ideation and attempt, trauma and family resentment, and a bunch of small, dead animals. Also, a journal of questions about vampirism

Probably should be reading one of the books I have out from the library.
But Book 1 was so cute...

OF COURSE Kyle made a deal with a demon.
Ugh.
He sucks.
He uses the same lines over and over again, too.
What a fake.
sigh.
I wanted him to just be insecure.
But nooooooooooooo.
He's such a narcissist.

Fast read. Cute. Silly. Mal is adorable. It is unclear what is likeable about Kyle.

Lynnix really loves chapter 3 with the Queen Kitty loving the bath dream. It's her favorite part, and she giggles wildly. <3

Doing this for a buddy read so pausing before I start chapter 6, but i am more interested than I expected to be.

I don't want Xtianity in my "how to be a good person" books.
I want my child to learn how to be kind without the "God wants it from you".
The book WAS great. I HAD been really enjoying reading it.
Beautiful illustrations, lovely concepts.
But I will be getting rid of it.
