3.5 stars so far. It's fine, but nothing amazing. And I understand wanting to make a fantasy world feel different from ours, but why do some authors insist on coining new terms for everyday objects with simple names? Examples in this book: seater instead of chair or couch or just seat, younglings instead of kids or children. Also aurorafall, slumber, and turns for night/years. Feels unnecessarily jarring.

I've waited over a year for this audiobook on Libby. Everyone says the banter is just as good as Lights Out, so I have very high expectations. Hopefully not setting myself up for disappointment.

Duet narration, which is my favorite kind. Lots of drama already. Social structure reminds me of Daggermouth, but instead of masks, the ruling class are all about dire wolves.

Trudging through. Not engaging.

Hasn't improved since the first book. Still no world building and now I expect it's a lost cause because the romance has completely overtaken any plot development. And the MC pairing still gives me the ick, so I can't even enjoy that. If you're looking for just vanilla spice with dragons' feelings encouraging their riders' feelings, this is it. If you want anything deeper, look elsewhere.

Didn't realize this was a sapphic novel when I started it. Nothing against it, just can't relate to it. Unique premise, space travel, necromancers, and sword fighting (not a euphemism) in one book. Some of the banter is laugh out loud funny. Names can be a bit difficult to follow in the audiobook.

Not impressed so far. Insta-lust for both the MCs, immediately feeling possessive while simultaneously mentally narrating how they hate each other but also want to do the deed. Mating bond waiting in the wings in all probability. Premise is flimsy at best: over-protected princess manages to sneak off to avenge her sister rather than command armies to do so.

Waited ages for this to be available on audiobook and so far I'm incredibly disappointed. The FMC is a timid little thing who nearly kills herself when her first lay rejects her. She is 19 years old and extremely sheltered and naive. The MMC is 39 ("nearly forty" is what he actually says) and the leader of the army. Why are age gaps always young girls with old men? Not my trope.

Not very far in, but the narrator on the audiobook pronounces the FMC's name wrong. Her name is Isla, which in all my years I've always heard pronounced "eye-lah" but the way she says it is "eyes-slaw" with almost a "z" sound for that middle part. Nothing to do with the story but man, it's annoying. Kinda hope they use the word "aisle" at some point to see how she says that.

At this point a 5 star read. Cool magic system (reminiscent of Warbreaker by BranSan, give it a listen if you enjoy this, less romance but actually one of his more romance driven books). The banter is fantastic, which is impressive considering the MMC barely speaks for the first quarter of the book (you'll get why that's funny if you read it). Already reserved the next 2 in the series.

About to be returned automatically through Hoopla, so just putting this here in case it doesn't save my progress. Not very good so far though. Skipped forward from 45% to about 55% because it was dragging. I clearly didn't miss much.

Meh. Might be a DNF. Premise so far: some people are afflicted (infected?) with a curse that eventually turns them into a dragon. Young FMC is one such person and she is forced to pursue a career as a dragon hunter against her will. In order to become a knight, a bunch of teenagers are locked in a temple for a few weeks to see who is strong enough and who is infected.

Not good so far. The dialogue is childish. The writing style sounds like it was written by an AI prompted to write a YA romantasy.

1 star so far. It's in the third person and the whole premise is stupid. An election process that involves torturing the candidates to see who should govern. How does that make sense? And there are fae/half fae who everyone hates. But actually it doesn't actually matter at all if you're fae because you're not allowed to use magic on people.

So many typos! Words left out a lot.

Not sure this is worth finishing. The "world building" is all telling, not showing. Constant conversations of explanations and questions. The rest of the series has even better ratings, but working through this one might prove too difficult.

Decent so far. The FMC is a tad young for me (only 19). Her inner monologue is pretty funny at times and totally random and hard to follow at others. I'm listening to it on audiobook, so sometimes it's hard to tell when she's thinking or talking out loud.

Pretty darn terrible so far. The dialogue and characters are juvenile- more like high schoolers than adults. And the whole premise: a girl (I refuse to call her a woman) drops out of the sky into a world of vampires from her world of fae, where she just finished destroying the world or something, and now she's struggling to stay alive in high school.

So far, slow paced and stereotypical faery trope. Two things that have bothered me: author's use of the word myriad. It's supposed to be singular, not plural but twice she's used it incorrectly. Also wrote inane instead of insane once. Plot point I didn't care for: when she was worried about being late to class so instead of using the trails to get across campus, she *jumps in the freezing river* to make it?!

Still bad. It took her a week to travel from one place to another and her friend makes the journey in one day? She's spent the whole last week getting measured every day for dresses (why?) and later says she only knows how dress fittings work from her slave days? Doesn't want to make Zoe uncomfortable but takes every opportunity to antagonize him. Rides a horse like a natural, then randomly flies off when startled.

Still trudging through. MC feels bad about accidently getting a couple guards killed and swears to never put someone in that position again. 2 pages later she's declaring her new guards her enemies and trying to escape without a care as to what happens if they fail at their job, even mocks how seriously he takes his job. And all day, every day she just meanders around the city buying things- with what money exactly?

I'm having to force myself to keep reading at this point. The writing isn't great (68 pages in and the word ravening has been used 5 times). There have been quite a few typos already. The main character seems to vacillate between being completely innocent and suddenly knowledgeable- for example, she's studied maps of the Fae lands but doesn't know anything about the land she's grown up in for 18 years.
