Ok, I think I need to stop reading this. It seems to be one looooong argument. It’s running in place… Richard is jealous and Lizzy is naive and obstinate. It’s like being a guest at the home of The Bickersons. Why would you stay? Not to mention that I am bitter about THE TRAGEDY. And I’m only 33% through. If I keep reading I suspect there will be an attempt to compromise/rape Lizzy and then Richard..

I was so looking forward to reading this book, but it is all written in correspondence, which I find incredibly tedious to read. I’m so sad because I love most of the authors other works! 😢

Listening to audiobook and the narration is driving me to hate this novel. The cadence of the way she reads lacks much expression or feeling, it’s rather monotone droning occasionally leading me to block out the sound with my own thoughts. She fairly whispers much of the speech, and her “s” sounds have an annoying whistle. Is this book really this dry and boring? All 14 hours of it?!? 😱

I've taken up sewing because I've been avoiding this book. I think it's pretty sophomoric in it's dialogue and premise and so I haven't wanted to read. I had surgery in early January and haven't read a word since,
Does that ever happen to you? You end up in a slump because you don't like a book? Yes, I read almost exclusively JAFF when I read fiction, and maybe it's that I'm bored with the genre?

Hey - I received an ARC for review and the book will be released August 25th — do I have to wait until it’s officially released until I can post a review?

Has anyone of my friends read Mr. Darcy's Chilling Proposal: An Italian Intrigue?
I'm curious, but also cautious. The blurb makes it sound kinda stupid -- ie. Elizabeth must "live for his pleasure." WTF? Is this some kind of a weird sexual slavery fantasy? It's not on KU so before I spend the $ I would like to hear from someone who has read the book. Thanks!!!

So excited - just learned that Tish Elham's long-awaited follow up to Summers End, Winter Moon, will be published soon (she said in a week, but you never know so I'll just say sometime in July, 2021.) I'm a huge WWII buff and you know I love JAFF, so this is just a great confluence of my interests -- not to mention that Elham is a great writer, so this really is something to look forward to!

UGH! I just read that a JAFF author I could tolerate before this is publishing a new series of “sweet, clean romances.” I read that and I translate it as “this book will not challenge your cishet Caucasian Xtian boundaries” why can’t they just SAY WHAT THEY MEAN? “Disguise of every sort is my abhorrence.” -FD. And that’s all I’m sayin about that.

The novella is guaranteed no angst, and one-third of the way I’m bored.

Not for right now. Book opens at hunsford and revisits the Fall prior. Boring. Come on, hasn’t every reader of JAFF read P and P? If you’ve seen any movie version you know the story...

And - I feel sorry for Caroline Bingley. I don’t know that that has happened before. Poor miss Bingley.
I’ve already read this book before, but I forgot all of it, so decided to re-read. I was wondering why I didn’t rate this book, and I think it’s because I didn’t finish it.

re-reading. I recently saw this on someone’s favorite JAFF books list... and I have no memory of it whatsoever.

I’m out. The characters are one dimensional.

This book is a FMS, and it’s Wickham stirring up VERY predictable trouble. I’m pretty sure there is absolutely zero originality and will probably continue in the same vein. I should quit now. But I also hate to leave a book hanging like that. Also, I’m having a lot of trouble focusing because it’s so boring. Perhaps I’ll just skip to the last chapters.

I hate Darcy.
at Hunsford, after her refusal. And Darcy... suddenly becomes an incel. This man is no longer a romantic lead, he’s a rapey creep. Luke and Laura all over again! Why do women allow this and even think it’s normal? You get what you settle for. Not to mention the creepy economic power dynamic. Poor women often have to give up their right to consent when men control them economically. Gross.

Re-reading this one upon recommendation of a fellow JAFF friend. I remember very little of when I read it the first time!

Re-reading this book - I’m in need of some romantic humor. Probably the funniest book I’ve read in the genre.
