I love Max so much

This is not at all what I expected based on the cover and title but that's totally on me for not actually reading the synopsis XD

I wonder if this story about the Merrow influenced the Little Mermaid in some way with the sailors’ souls and a fish-like creature having a trove of “collectibles”

I don’t mind this for the most part even though it’s a bit slower than I like and the worldbuilding is a lot, but I am struggling with all the names and characters a and keeping track or who is who and the glossary at the beginning is not helpful with the way it’s organized.

I think I'm going to come back to this another time via the actual book because I cannot pay attention to anything happening

FINALLY rereading this for a book club and I know it's going to hurt

I wish illustrations in adult books was more of a thing because I am curious about how the author depicts these elves and goblins in comparison to other versions, especially with how their ears seem to function.

Although it’s devastating to read about, seeing WWI from the Canadian side is interesting since that’s not usually converted in history class

I think I could do without the stories portions and just have the poems. Some of these have very good lines.

The dialogue is tripping me up at times but holy worldbuilding, Batman! There is SO MUCH happening in this book

I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this yet but I’m here for the folklore/mythology
