About 2 hours in, which I've sped through, due to rambling, whining, MC.
Also 1st person POV, which is off-putting on its own.

Soooo, I raised playback speed to get through faster. That's a clear enough indication, me thinks.
There's something not quite right with the female representation in this book.

Ugh. So, this is getting worse and worse.
- A monster of a detective? Check.
- Stupidly naive and credulous sidekick? Check.
- Tepid mystery? Getting more tepid by the minute.

Very unlikeable main characters. Still waiting to see if they will do something to redeem themselves.

I'm beginning to lose track of which auntie's POV I'm reading. Not a good sign.
They keep obliquely referencing to something that happened long ago, but so far have not given any meaningful clue to deducing what it is. I'll be supremely pissed off if they leave it unexplored in the end. I hate artificially created suspence.

Chapter titles are formatted like a summary. This rubs me so wrong.
This was recommended to me as fit for fans of Christie. I disagree.

Don't care about the narrative of the new cop Sandy. Here's to hoping he's not in the next books.
Fran's portrayal is also surprisingly irritating, considering she's not even present in book 3. How sad. I kind of liked her in the previous two books.

There are some really good stories in here. Skipped the super long chaptered one at half point. That one was supremely unlike Dame Agatha. I suspect I would have liked it, if the completely butchered version of miss Marple wasn't there, but if you're going to present a compilation of Marple story, then I expect proper characterisation.

Yes, so, me thinks Kate Quinn just might not be the author for me. Second of her books I'm reading, and again I'm turned off by the iffy romance and melodrama. I wanted the codebreaking and the spying, d@#n it!

This would have been easier to read in book form. I would have been able to skip Charlie's chapters then.

I like Eve's narrative.
But so far, Charlie's not doing much for me.

Started fairly well. It was fun till maybe chapter 5,then the usual Twilight-esque dumb heroine sh*t started cropping up.

This book began getting interesting around the 60% mark. The only thing saving it from the DNF pile up to that point was that I liked V. E. Scwab's style in the Shades of Magic series. Normally, I'm not so patient with the slow starters. Do you even call it a slow start when the good stuff only starts happening during the second half?

That girl can be zo frustratingly dim. Grrr.

There has been almost no Anne in this book, and I'm finding that without the Anne-ness, I don't really enjoy P. E. Island, and don't really want to know about all their various offspring. This may be headed for the DNF pile.

So is it me, or is this book painting a pretty disturbing picture?
I never actually read it as a child, because I used to hate Disney movies (still don't like them), and the Peter Pan movie was pretty popular where I lived, so I stubbornly refused to watch it, or read the book.
Fast forward some 20 years, and I'm getting the creeps from this.

Picked this up on recommendation from a FB group, and somehow missed the detail about it being a sci-fi. Which isn't my preferred genre at all. I was all 'oh, da#n, another miss'.
But I decided to listen to the 1st part to give it the benefit of the doubt, and am I glad I did! <3
I've got a new favorite narrator out of the bargain, and an author to follow.

Done with the da@n tunnels (at least for now), and the pace is FINALLY picking up a bit. Our boy's about to do something dumb too, I can just feel it. Also, I got so. many. bones to pick with this book.

Why do I always pick up the kinds of books where I end up disappointed? So about half-way through, the supposed hero has failed his all-important quest and I could hardly care any less, because ugh. Really? Really?!? Actually Hellgate might have been more intriguing.

This reminds me of the plot of Hellgate: London. Hope the plot is better built than an Electronic arts game.

What "whirl of adventure" and what "romantic heroes"? It's been 20 something hours of melodrama, self-entitled pricks and excruciatingly slow pacing. I'm listening to the last 20% at double speed, so I can put this sh*t behind me.

So d'Artagnan is a hotheaded curiosity-killed-the-cat sort of fool, Athos is a drunkard who'll pick any fight and gamble away all his possesseions, and might have a death wish on top of that, Aramis supposedly wants to return to being a man of the church, but has this prolongued sort-of-romance with a duchess, while Portoss is a braggart, a gambler, and a swindler. Good lord.

@Chapter 63, listening to the unabridged audiobook on Storytel
So far, if it weren't for Atoss and the Cardinal, I 'd have probably dropped this, the rest of the cast are exceedingly unrelatable to me, especially d' Artagnan.

I'm unsure if the percentage stated above is anywhere near accurate, because I started listening to this yesterday, it put me to sleep, and now it shows as Complete on my account, so the recording must have run out. I'm currently debating with myself if it's worth it to start over from the top.
